Title: Cooking your own legumes.
Post by: cookie1 on January 10, 2018, 02:37:06 am
I know I should know the answer to this but I don't. 😗😗😗I have bought a lot of chick peas ( are they legumes too?) and legumes, soaked them and then frozen them ready to use. Can I now use these as I would a tin of them? Or will I need to cook them before using them in a recipe?

Thanks. ❤️❤️

As far as I know cookie they will still need cooking.  Far too fiddly as far as I’m concerned which is why I used the canned variety if a recipe includes legumes.

Thanks Judy. I thought that. I  like the firmer texture of the ones you do  yourself but as you say it's a nuisance. I have to remember to soak them too!

Definitely cook them before you use them ... although I think, so long as you have soaked and rinsed them that you can use them in a long, slow cooking recipe, but you may have to research that.  Personally, after thawing them out, I would precook them before incorporating them into a recipe.

Thanks Marina, much appreciated. I have run out of kidney beans in the freezer so have some soaking. Over the Christmas break we got out of our legume eating, so I'm menu planning to get back into it.
