Chit Chat / Re: Saffron, love it, but soo expensive

Thanks Debbie, I'll give this a go.  I'm not sure if I'll be able to find a vegetarian paella, so this looks like a good alternative.  I'm not sure if I can tackle a risotto without cheese, I'm still working on that alternative.

Good idea, Brumington, I never thought of that.  Maybe spray them first to give them a bit of a head start!

So should I use it in a more delicate, rice based dish or will it work with different styles of dish?

Does saffron actually have a taste?  I always thought it was for colouring?

When we were passing through Qatar a year or two ago I got some saffron.  How long does it last?  To be honest I haven't used it because it was so expensive.  This lot I got in Qatar was very reasonable but, becasue I've never used it in the past, I don't know what to use it in!!!

Remember, for those of you who give me hints and help on this one, I'm vegetarian!

I’m sorry to hear about your friend’s TMX, Sharlyn, but I think she will have to grit her teeth and pay the money.  I am pretty sure no manufacturer will guarantee against something like this as it is not a mechanical / manufacturing fault as such.  Air vents have to be incorporated into the design of the TMX to ensure the correct operation of the machine and cockroaches can get into the smallest of places – I’ve seen some real damage done by these little beggars.  It is something beyond Vorwerk’s control, I’m afraid.

Did you know that McDonalds is the 'official' food for the Olympics and Coka Cola is the 'official' drink!

Did anyone watch Gruen Sweat on ABC1 last night?  It was quite an eye-opener with regard to the commercialisation of the games - the athletes themselves hardly got a mention - unless they were being used in a commerical situation.

Yeah, I believe coleslaw 'soup' isn't very nice!

Hally, hope you re feeling better today.  You've had a rough couple of weeks.

I've never tried mashed potatoes in the TMX - I have read so many different posts about them that I'm now a little hesitant to have a go.

I usually buy my organic fruit and veges either at the Collingwood Farmers Market or the Slow Food market at the Abbotsford Convent otherwise at Vic. market.  I am sure I have seen CERES at either the C'wood Farmers Market or the Slow Food Market and their produce looks good.  It will be interesting to see how it works out for you.

Snappy - you are a bad influence on me!!  I simply cannot argue with your logic.

That looks gorgeous, Snappy.  thanks for the conversion.  Why is it that I am always drawn to sweet things when I should be resisting them and not even looking at the recipes?

Hi Val and welcome to the forum.  Glad you are getting so much use out of your TMX - it's a great machine.

Used to live in Kal. many, many years ago - have a lot of good and amusing memories of Kal / Boulder.
