Danube (Filled Bread)

Ingredients
550 grams bread flour
250 grams milk
50 grams extra virgin olive oil
30 grams honey
10 grams of salt
2 teaspoons dry yeast
1 egg
1 egg lightly beaten, for brushing
fillings of choice (e.g. ham & cheese, salami, sundried tomato, jam, nut butter, chocolate/mini Easter eggs)

Directions
1. Place the milk in the TM bowl and warm for 2 minutes at 37șC on speed 1.  Add the oil, sugar, yeast and whole egg and mix for 10 seconds on speed 6. Add the flour and salt, mix for 2 minutes speed 7, then knead for 1 minute.
2. Let dough rise in a lightly oiled and covered bowl until it has doubled in size.
3. Divide the dough into pieces, flatten each leaving the centre thicker than the edges, fill with the filling and form a ball (slightly larger than a golf ball).  Place the balls in a pan covered with parchment paper (in a flower shape, or other shapes as your imagination allows) brush with beaten egg and allow to stand for half an hour in a warm, still place (cover if necessary).
4. Brush again with egg and bake at 180șC for about 30 minutes, making sure to cover it with aluminium foil if it is browning too quickly after just 15-20 minutes.

Cookie ... you're definitely going to lead us all off the "straight and narrow" with suggestions like that one!  Those rolls look so appetising O2K, thanks for the inspiration.

Sorry Cuilidh, I fell off years ago. I have a constant battle with my weight and don't make all the things I would dearly love too. I'm still hanging out with Rara's cherry bites. Perhaps I'll make some and send them to work with DD over Easter.

I just had a thought, I have some left over fruit mince. I could put that in the centre. Yum.

They look delicious! I'd love them with a savoury filling. Cheese & bacon comes to mind....
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

I've just pulled these out of the oven, half an hour ago, and they're beautiful.

I fried up an onion, 2 slices of leg ham, 2 sm tomatoes, around 6 mushrooms, 2 cloves of garlic and 2 tbs of tomato paste and some italian herbs for the stuffing, it made lovely pizza filled rolls. Yum!

Thanks a lot for the recipe, Opi.

I'm not sure if my photos will work loading from a private FB album, but I'll try...

Is there meant to be sugar in these?  It mentions it in directions but not ingredients?

Eta nevermind. Having a slow day. Realised you meant honey lol

Wish this headache/lurgy would go away!! Lol

I wondered the same thing, Snoozie, before clicking it was the honey.

I did less honey too, 10g if I remember correctly.

I made these for dinner tonight and used Beef Chow-Mein Left overs to fill them.  A hit all round.

Thank you.
