Icing?
« on: March 22, 2009, 05:00:57 am »
We've made the chocolate cake from the book but there is no directions on how to do icing ??? Can anyone help quick? We're making the cake for a birthday today. Otherwise we'll do it the conventional way, although, s**t, I gave away my mixer the other day, doh!

I just melted the butter at around 50 degrees for a couple of mins, then added in some icing sugar and strirred it on about speed 1 till it was blended
just add in the cocoa or whatever colouring you are doing, should work out
as you can tell I just made it up without really following a recipe as such
the one thing I did find was that the icing kept going hard so had to keep warming it up again

Ayla, I just make the icing sugar according to the book, add a dollop of margarine and wizz it together and then add enough milk to give it the conistency I want. Good luck.

Hi Ayla, can you let us know what that chocolate cake was like please.  I have looked at it but am waiting for someone else to do it first then do a review on it.  Hope you got the icing done in time for the candles to be blown out.   :D

Cookie, I have made that chocolate cake (of course  ;D ;)) and it turned out well.  It only makes a small cake but can easily be doubled.  If my memory serves, I may have cut down the cooking time to stop it being too dry, but I guess that will vary with individual ovens.
