Using frozen fruit for jam
« on: June 30, 2015, 06:39:20 am »
This probably sounds a dumb question to those who already make jam from frozen fruit. However I have never done it and having bought quite a few Australian berries the other day I thought I would give it a go.
My question is...do I thaw the frozen fruit before I make the jam please? I want to make some mixed berry jam and possibly some apricot jam.

Thanks.

I make apricot jam from apricots I freeze in season.
I don't thaw them first but just gently bring them up to temp and then cook jam as normal.
I got the idea of freezing fruit when in season and then  using it to make jam  from a friend who has done the same for years.
The jam seems "fresher" and I make it in smaller batches as needed so perfect for the Thermomix.
Good luck cookie1

Cookie, I have made jam from frozen fruit with no problems.  No need to thaw the fruit.
The  man who said it can't be done should not interupt the woman doing it.
