Title: I am awaiting delivery of my TM, but have to wait until Monday. Help!
Post by: JuliaBalbilla on October 21, 2011, 08:48:47 pm
Hi, I live in Gloucestershire (UK) and my TM will arrive on Monday.  As I ordered one too late in the week, I will be stressed for the whole weekend.  I cannot wait to get hold of my beauty.  Has anyone else been in this situation where 'non-working days' get in the way?   Would love to know how I can cope with over the weekend !!!!!!!!!!

Does it help to think that the weekend adds to the allure of the TMX? - you can substitute any of my words for any others that are suitable.  Use the time to get your recipes and ingredients ready and plan your first couple of meals then you can get straight into the cooking when your TMX arrives.  Enjoy.

Hi and welcome.

have a great read through here, buy up the basics, and get ready to cook up a storm when you get your Thermomix.

lots of excitement waiting, but worth it.

Welcome from another UK user.   I know how frustrating it must be to have to wait over the weekend but, as others have said, just spend the time reading up on things and planning your first week of cooking.   You may well find you have to go out and stock up on a few things so the weekend will fly by.

Enjoy your first days with the machine and let us know how you get on.   Don't forget this is a great place to come and ask any questions, however trivial you feel they are.  Everyone on here is really helpful

Hi Julia, welcome to the forum.  Do as the others have said, have a read of the recipes on here, choose which ones you are going to do first and go shopping.  I'd tidy the pantry and get the house clean too because you are not going to have time to do that once the TMX arrives - you will only want to be in the kitchen.  Check out the recipes here (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=6470.0) on CP's favourite list - she has some great recipes there.  Let us know how you are going next week when you've done a few meals but pop in anytime and ask questions, tell us some stories and once you've mastered your machine and started converting your own favourite recipes, share them with us. You are in for the ride of your life  ;)

OK Julia,  how about bread and soup for your first meal in Thermi?  No Fuss Bread, to get ready , place 500 grams of bread flour in a container and add a handful of seeds, ( for interest). Place next to it a measuring container for 300g.  Place with these a teaspoon and either a baking tray or container suitable to cook a loaf of bread in.Some baking paper to line tin or Canola spray.  A spray bottle for water. Yeast.  Look up the recipe and print it out.
Use the Forum to find a delicious soup recipe.  Collect all the ingredients.
Make the bread and while it is baking,  make the soup.  ENJOY

I agree Marina - it just proves how easy making a loaf of bread really is doesn't it.

Welcome to the forum. Chookie has outlined some cooking for you. My hint is to catch up with all the housework, washing and ironing as when your TMX arrives you will have no time to do them. ;)

Thank you all for your welcome and advice.  I have started a mini spring clean already and will certainly think about what I am going to make.  Probably will be bread and soup as advised.  I make most of my bread anyway so it will be a new experience to make it in the TM and I have just realised that it peels garlic, which is godsend as I eat tons of the stuff.

Thanks again for your help and i will certainly share my recipes with you!

Thank you Cornish Cream - nice to know that there is someone in the UK using a TM.  I know that they are gaining popularity here but no-one I know has ever even heard of them.  In fact I only discovered their existence myself by surfing Spanish cookery websites back in 2009 and have wanted one ever since.

There is no one in my neighbourhood who owns one.A friend bought one but she hardly uses it even though I have encouraged her with recipes and cooking with her. I originally saw the TM21 demonstrated years ago when I attended a demo, fell in love with it there and then :D :D DH bought mine (by then the TM31 model was on the market)as a surprise birthday present and I absolutely love it.  ;D

The waiting is the worst part but your will get through it.  The words of advice to all is to order on a Monday and hopefully it will arrive by the weekend.  I ordered Sunday and got it Friday.  And what a sweat it was.  Check the delivery website and see if you can track its arrival.

Good grief!  Maybe there should be a law made to prevent the neglect of Thermomixes.  ;D

Thanks leesmac.   :) The waiting is awful, but am trying to keep busy.  I cannot track it at the moment as we are not told the tracking number until the morning of the delivery day.  I have never come across this before when buying stuff, but it appears that that is the way TM UK works.

You're almost there Julia.... The UK Thermomix people are really good and reliable so if they say it will arrive tomorrow, I think you can be confident that it will.

(Let's hope that my saying this doesn't jinx the delivery  :o :o)

Have you planned which soup you're going to cook?

Hi Katya, I hope to adapt a garlic soup recipe I have and adapt it to the TM and also include some carrots as well.

Dede, I'm that excited I doubt if I will be able to sleep!  :(

Hi Julia, welcome to this insane bunch of people :) No, they are a lovely bunch and the forum, it people and the recipes help make the TMX even more enjoyable.

I know your waiting is now over, so enjoy the great new toy.

Regarding what CornishCream was saying, my wife didn't really use the TMX much when we first got it. Mostly occasional rolls & soup, it didn't get serious use till later (6 months?) and I started to use it for some reason. Then I discovered this forum, some of the blogs, The Indian Cookbook and then the Asian Cookbook and haven't looked back since.

Thanks Tarasis!  I am sure I shall use it every day as we eat a lot of rice and pasta and standing over a hob (ours is very slow to heat) is not my idea of fun.  Glad to hear you are using yours more  :)

Leesmac78, I have taken a photograph but don't know to how add it on here.  Not terribly good as it is a typical dull English day and the light is poor.  It is on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/34648965@N03/6276979468/in/photostream

Thank you all for your good wishes!  Leesmac, yes that is indeed a Kenwood 'lurking' and in fact there is a Magimix beyond that and a large set of scales (of which I have 2 sets) and a Bamix blender the other side of the TM.  It is all taking up a lot of work space and I am beginning wonder if I need all this stuff now ...

Am afraid I am a little like Thermomixer - a hoarder!  However, I have decided to get rid of my breadmaker, asparagus steamer, rice cooker, one of the two sets of scales and the couscousier and I think that will be as ruthless as I can be :'(  I would have included the electric hand whisk, but DH wants to keep it so that he can get lumps out of his sauces.  The Bamix, Magimix and certainly the Thermomix, he finds intimidating  ;D

What a shame, nothing easier than sauce with TMX.
DH made cookies favorite quiche tonight, I m sure it won't be long before yours masters TMX for his sauces.

I can understand that, we had a Magimix and really only used it for making puréed baby food and that was it. We gave it to my wife's sister this year as it had been collecting dust for nearly 4 years. We didn't cook the sort of things you'd use it for, now the TMX has turned that around :)

I have held on to my rice-maker as we very occasionally use it if we are using the Thermomix to cook something and are steaming veggies at the same time....  and I have a handheld beater for cream and egg whites and an ice-cream maker, but otherwise I don't use any electric gadgets other than the Thermomix

Hi Tarasis
I couldn't be without my Magimix, mainly because anything I eat has to be without meat or fish, DH is allergic to cheese and DD hates anything in the slightest bit spicy.  We have to make different or adapted meals all the time and the Magimix enables us to do this.  Ideally we should have 3 TMs :-)

I have held on to my rice-maker

Hi Katya

I bought the steamer for DH as his rice is not up to much even though I taught him how to make it the conventional way.  However, he only ever used it twice and went back to his old ways of cooking bad rice in a saucepan  >:(
