Chit Chat / Re: Are there any backyard veggie gardeners here?

Thanks Emme - I have a worm farm, so will try to focus on feeding the rhubarb with it, and grab some manure next time I'm at the garden centre!

All we get coming in from the garden are occasional birds attracted by cat biscuits!  Not quite so cute!

Hi,
I'm a bit of a novice gardener, and we have peas & strawberries (can't get enough of them - kids eat them off the plants as they ripen), plus motly herbs (parsley, coriander, mint).
We renovated out house last year, and only just recently got the garden set up after that, so waiting for a couple of things to come away again.  The mint and a little lemon tree are from pre-building work, so hoping they make it (pretty sure the mint will! It's spreading already).

I also have planted some rhubarb, but it does not seem to be going well.  I keep hearing that it's really hardy and it's more difficult to keep it under control, but I've not managed to grow any yet!  Maybe next time I go up to mum's I can grab a bigger chunk of hers...

Think I might have to try the spring onion tip!  Thanks.

Jo - You are right in my back yard - or maybe I am in yours ... I'm from Lower Hutt (near Hutt Central School, if it still exists).
Yes, definitely close neighbours!!  DD goes to playcentre right next to Hutt Central, and her wee cousin lives just down the road from there (Moa St).

Cuilidh - I'm a Welly girl too. Currently in Petone.

Obbie, lalala, not listening....SO don't need more things to spend money on. I'm a bit of a crafty gadget fiend so have o force myself to just that "little" addiction...
I'll stick with just checking out those lunchbox ideas for the moment.

Hi all,
I'm here to get my thermo-fix until my new baby arrives...just ordered on Tuesday, and trying to be patient.  We have been wanting one since we first saw one while on holiday in Perth four and a half years ago! TM wasn't available in NZ then, so it's been a long wait, and so excited to know it will soon have pride of place on my bench, at last.

I have 2 young kids (5 and almost-3), and looking forward to making our family lots of delicious food.  We all demolished the sorbet and custard and other goodies that our demonstrator showed us. Hoping to find lunchbox ideas and just general family meals.

My husband is most looking forward to getting rid of all the other kitchen gadgets - bread machine, cake mixer, scales....

Looking forward to sharing and testing lots of delicious recipes here!

x
Jo
