Title: How many versions have there been of the printed EDC?
Post by: NikiG on August 14, 2011, 05:22:37 am
I am about to make the Tomato & Lentil Dahl so I have just been looking at the tweaks and suggestions here on the forum - some of these suggestions were made some time ago (2009 and 2010). My EDC was printed in March 2011 so I am not sure if some of the tweaks/suggestions are included in this version. Does anyone know how many versions of the printed EDC there have been?
Thanks in advance!

The EDC is printed by Thermomix in Australia. This forum is independent of them.  They might have picked up some of the tips on this site, but then again they might not.  ;)

Thanks Amanda, I realise the forum and TM Australia are 2 separate things, but from what I have read so far, Tenina (who I can see is a fairly regular posted here) worked for TM Australia until recently and was involved in the recipe testing (according to my EDC) so I thought that some of the tweaks and suggestions might have made it back there :)

That is a good question.  One of our forum members (meganjane) assisted Tenina by providing her with the EDC tweaks from our forum (put together in one document).  I am not sure if these tweaks have been put to good use yet in current copies though.  Megan would probably know as I think she was going to receive an updated copy for her efforts.  :)

Thanks Chelsea - wow, that would have been an awesome effort, meganjane! Maybe if members could share when their EDC was printed we could get an idea of how many versions there have been?

... and not all of the tweaks would make it into the new EDC as a lot of them are also personal taste :)

My EDC is May 2008 but I also have the latest one on hand for demo's. Before I make any recipe from any of the books I always check on here for reviews and tweaks to see if there is anything I might like to change for our personal taste's  ;)

I think also just because it has a different print date doesn't mean it has been changed. It may just be a rerun of the previous book ;)

I had a quick look at my friend's copy which is the March 2011 o copne and there are lots of tweaks in it. My copy's at least 2 years old and i noticed the minestroni's changed, also the creme brulee, risotto and I'm sure there's more. I didn't have my book there to compare.

Meagan is quite correct here.  I spoke to Grace Mazur about my frustrations with the EDC in about 2008 and she told me it was to be reprinted, but not really re-edited. They were just going to alter a couple of things.

Thermoheaven, that's good to know - I might check out my friend's book, I know she has had her TM about 18 months so I'll see which edition she has to do a comparison and give some feedback if there are vast differences.

Meagan, that is a very valid point, thanks also to Amanda for your comments too.

a couple of years ago there was this (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=1895.0) topic, so would just depend on how old your current book is.

Fantastic, thanks very much CreamPuff! I'll compare it to my book this arvo and let you know if they are incorporated in the March 2011 version.

I have seen a new hard cover EDC on the web.  Is this available yet and is it different in any way to the current EDC?

TIA

I read somewhere the other day that all demonstrations from now would receive the new EDC. I THINK. It may be purchased by owners for about $40. Either check with your consultant or HO.

Down at our local shopping centre today there was a thermomix stand and I asked the man and lady who were demonstrating if we would be able to buy it if we already have a tm and they said to get in contact with my consultant and yes we could  ;D it looks really nice and doesn't have those stupid ring binders which forever come apart  :-))

I've just checked my 2007 version against the list CP did in 2009. My book has 31 less recipes. I think I might have to but the latest EDC.

I've just checked it against the last one and the difference is around 75! Definitely time for a new book.

Someone has a copy of the new edc on eBay and they're asking $199 for it.

The new EDC is being supplied with all Thermomixes sold atm - from 9 April.  It is substantially different from the current book, in looks, style and moderately different in terms of content.

Yes, it can be purchased for $40 from Group Leaders, although if you host a demo in May you can purchase for $25 or receive a new EDC free if someone buys at your demo.

I saw it at my last training as one of our team was at Thermofest and all attendees there received one free.

I'm looking forward to getting my hands on one as one of my recipe conversions got chosen to go into this publication.  It doesn't give customer or consultant names any more though but if you have any comments on Steamed Ginger Puddings I'd be very keen to hear your comments.

I bought a copy of the new EDC yesterday. It's beautiful, especially when compared with my 2007 version.

I saw one today...I commented on another thread about it. It does look lovely. There are 4 new recipes and 4 old recipes not there anymore. I'm sorry I don't know which recipes though! I decided not to get one as pretty as it is, it is just too similar to my 2012 version to justify the cost I think.

It has 75 more recipes than my 2007 version.

I'd be very interested to see if any of the tweaks that I wrote up for Tenina went into it. I didn't ever receive a book, but that's not why I did it.
It was so frustrating to hear people complaining that recipes from the EDC didn't work.

Unfortunately, my computer crashed some time after writing that document, so I no longer have it. Tenina might still, though probably not.

I'd be interested to see the new book. My sister went to a demo recently and four of the people at the demo already had TM's (poor consultant!!). They said they preferred the one with the ring binding as it sits flat and fits into their recipe book stands.
