Old fashioned dumplings to have with casseroles and stews.
« on: April 04, 2011, 07:36:36 am »

Dumplings:
Serves 4:
Ingredients:
1 cup self raising flour
15-20g butter
water

Preparation:
Place flour and butter into bowl and blend until like breadcrumbs.
Add a little water with machine  on Speed 2. Add enough water until mixture clumps together. It will need to be fairly wet.
Remove mixture from bowl in 4 equal serves. (approx)
Place each 'dumpling' onto a small piece of baking paper in the bottom of the Varoma.
Place lid on Varoma.Place onto bowl. Cook at Varoma for about 20-25 minutes.

Photos:

Tips/Hints:
To make more, simply increase the amounts of flour and butter. When these were cooked I put them onto the casserole and spooned a little liquid over them.

Thanks for that recipe, Cookie1.  I've been searching for a good dumpling recipe for a while now and will look forward to trying this during the winter.

Yummy. I love dumplings. I add grated cheese and chopped herbs to ours for extra flavour.  :)

Cookie, I can see your avatar and dumpling pic too.  Have u tried shutting your computer down ?  I rarely shut my computer down, just hibernate it every day.  After a while wierd stuff starts happening or it freezes etc so I know it's time for a proper shut down.  May just be worth a try.

Bumping this as its good casserole weather & DH asked me the other day what did they taste like. I think he saw some on Masterchef.

Will be making these next week once I get some meat for casseroles

I've made these for years by hand, rubbing in butter then adding in milk instead of water. Sometimes add fresh or dried herbs depending on what they are for.
Very popular with family and great way of stretching leftover stew.

Much healthier than traditional suet dumplings.

Very good if you have a bit much liquid in the stew/casserole too.

Would these dumplings go well with this.
