Hi all, I've been away from the forum for a while and just getting back into more cooking and checking out this forum for recipe ideas.  Could I please ask if this book is a new Indian cookbook from Thermomix?  I ate butter chicken for the first time,  when I visited Adelaide for a work conference last year, cooked the authentic way, and fell in love with the flavour of the curry dish.  I would love to replicate it at home. Thanks in advance!
Wendy

I've been making these yummy quiches each week for lunches (4 wks in a row now) since I discovered the recipe (thanks, Amy!). Today, I added a medium sized carrot and upped the SR flour by 20g to compensate for the extra carrot. Family loves these. I get a big smile from the toddler (18mths) when he sees the quiche in front of him for lunch. :)

Hi GP, thanks and I'm glad your pumpkin soup turned out well! :)

I've just returned fm my holidays and am getting back into thermomixing. I made Chelsea's creamy garlic prawn risotto on the weekend and it was a hit! Planning to try Faffa's Fig Bar next as I've been given some fresh figs at work. And attempt to steam a whole fish on the weekend. We have been enjoying the Fremantle Octopus (fm Burswood Seafood store) and am thinking of making my own. Would be so much cheaper. Will post recipe once I've gotten it right. :)

Great recipe, Chelsea! Our family loved it and our two fussy eaters (5 and 1.5yo) were only too happy to have the leftovers for dinner again the next night (which was tonight).  :)

Can I ask how u steam fish and vege all together?  Is all placed in the 1 varoma dish
I place the veg in the bottom part of the varoma dish, and fish fillet (cut into bite size pieces) on the varoma tray then place the translucent cover on top. I also placed damp baking paper on the tray to prevent the fish juices from dripping onto the veg underneath. But, made sure there were sufficient gaps on the side to allow the steam through. Hope that helps... :)

Chelsea's Creamy Garlic Prawn Rissoto is also delicious ;)

Hi CC, this was the exact recipe I used...I didn't realize it was Chelsea's. Very delicious and is definitely a keeper in our house! There were some leftover from last night and the kids didn't balk at eating it again for tonight's dinner :)

Hi Yolly & welcome! I too am from Perth. I went the opposite and wanted the TMX for main meals especially to help with fast healthy cooking. I had a varoma demo (2 in 1 cooking) the first time my consultant came to me as I was specifically interested in it. She cooked rice and chicken cashew vegetables together. It didn't take very long, about 40 min and the end result was very delicious. We all had a very good meal out of it!

I now use my varoma to steam fish fillet and veg at the same time. Still getting the hang of it with the veg but the fish has been turning out good. My next mission is to steam a whole barramundi in the varoma :)

Enjoy your journey...

Made a very delicious Creamy Garlic Prawn Risotto tonight. Recipe was from the Thermomix Recipe Community. I omitted the parsley as we didn't have any on hand but it still tasted wonderful.

The kids (5 & 1.5yrs) wolfed it down. I even got a standing order from the 5yo to cook more of it for his dinner!

Recipe Book Recipe Reviews / Re: A Taste of Asia recipe book review
« on: December 29, 2012, 02:34:53 pm »
I don't think this book is intended for mainstream Aussies who cook the occasional Asian dish and proclaim their love for Asian food. I think this cookbook has a very specific market. In addition to it being "Asian", it's very Malaysian/Singaporean (what else would anyone expect considering one of the contributors is Singaporean?). My guess is that HO is targeting the Malaysian/Singapoean population in Perth. If anyone were to show this cookbook to say a Hong Kong Chinese person, quite a few of those dishes would be considered quite alien to them as well. Most of the Australian population see mostly Cantonese/Hong Kong style food in the restaurants (and of course, Australian Chinese food), so to most of us, that is Chinese food. The few recipes I like out of the Asian cookbook aren't particularly strange to the Australian palate; they could be something some people haven't tried before, but they are definitely not soya bean milk, which I find quite different.
In all fairness, I view this cookbook as I do any other - if I find a few recipes out of it worthwhile, I'm happy - I have tons of cookbooks I've never cooked out of, so finding a few things I'd like to make is a bonus. I only do the salmon soup out of the seafood cookbook, and I don't think I've ever cooked out of the Indian or vegetarian books - not yet, anyway.

HO is probably trying to address those people who say it can't cook Chinese food. The tm can cook Chinese food, and it can do it very well, but I'd say those people who can't see it cooking Chinese food probably aren't into cooking that much and can't see past the risotto and pasta in the demo. It's a pity HO don't want to show any flexibility with their demo dishes - if they did, I'm sure many more doors would open.

That's my 2c worth.

Hi thermoheaven! I've been searching for an Asian (Singaporean/Malaysian cuisine) TM cookbook after purchasing my TM only very recently, and chicken rice recipe is certainly high on my wish list.  I specifically told my contact consultant (I was a "ripe" buyer) that I was mainly interested in seeing how the TM would be able to cook main meals as I'm quite time-poor.  She followed her instinct and demo'ed the chicken & cashew recipe out of the EDC which is quite Asian (instead of another Italian dish recommended by her group leader), and that essentially helped me to make the decision to purchase it there and then.  I'd say, if I was a consultant, I would tailor my demos to my audience's needs.  :D

Welcome, Odette!!

I have also just purchased a TM myself and your reasons for buying are exactly the same as mine!  You have been busy and I can see from your post that you're a seasoned cook (unlike myself), and have put your Thermie through its paces already. Well done!

Look forward to more of your posts.

Cheers,
WenV
