One of the things I had hoped for my new Thermomix was chopping onions without that liquid in the bottom of the bowl that made me stop doing in it my food processor. But 4 minutes at speed 4, for 1 1/2 large onions cut in eighths did not chop them finely enough and there was some liquid. Is there some secret to doing this, or must I go back to doing it the old-fashioned way with a knife? :(

Mairim chopping onions in the TM for 4 minutes is a long time :o Try dropping the quartered onions onto running blades on speed 41/2 until the desired consistency is required.

Thanks! I'll try that next time.

i agree with CC way to long. i turbo mine for a few sec then scarpe down the side and repeat a few times

Dropping them onto running blades works best for me. Just be aware that the TMX is so fast you literally only need a couple of seconds. If you are doing large quantities, you may need to do them in batches - I've never needed to do more than 1 or 2 at a time so not sure what happens if you want to chop a larger quantity. Fundj, I suspect you've probably done larger batches then me, do you know the answer to this one?

I do 2 sec/speed 5, check to see if I want it finer but generally it is OK for me as I like textured onion, not pulp. That is one large onion cut into half. I'm sure you meant 4 seconds and not 4 minutes mairim.

Cuilidh usually for larger batches of chopped onions i will confit them. i scarpe down the sides and also i pick up the jug a toss a few times that works for me. it all depends on what i am making if its a nap suace i only turbo a few times i like texture for a napolitana sauce

Speed 5 is the way to go!

I did mean seconds, not minutes. I'll try dropping them on the blades, and running only 2 seconds and will report on the results.
