I also have a pie maker which I must admit I haven't used for a while either, And funnily enough I was tidying my cupboards today and spotted the pie maker and though I must use this again.
I love curried scallop pies, Yum Yum.
No problem with shrinkage here either, I use puff pastry and they fill out beautifully. Mine is more of a enclosed sausage roll shape than round pies and also make 4 at a time.
That pie book looks fantastic. I am going to buy one and get it posted to our hotel in hawaii.
Thanks :D
Oh no not more recipes and ideas to try. I think I need to find some anti aging potion to keep me alive for an extra 100 years to ever get through all these recipes:D :D :D :D If you find that potion Dede, could you send me some as well. ;D
now I have to go out there and hunt around (after setting off a couple of bug bombs to kill the black widows that have taken established their territories during the past few months) to see if I can find it. I've already had a look through the storeroom in the house and couldn't find it - although I did find some other things that I had forgotten about.
Still looking. I have to get some help to get into the nether regions.Wow Andie it sounds as though you have a wonderful Aladdin's cave of interesting paraphernalia.Mind you good luck trying to find your pie maker in all that stuff.
Set the bug bombs today and will leave the place closed up for a couple of days. The young man who does my yard work has just started his fall college classes and won't be available to help me until the weekend.
It's impossible for me to crawl over some of the stuff in there.
I have footlockers (metal, Army surplus and cheap) packed full of books, two antique kitchen ranges that I had intended to refurbish, as well as some desks, file cabinets and a bunch of printing equipment that I used to use in my art work. All bulky, all heavy and the shelves where I think some of my old boxed appliances are stored are behind all that stuff and I can't even get to the light switches at the far end.
There used to be corridors in the place but those have gradually filled up - gads, I am such a pack rat!
Thanks fundj will try that :)i did try it, did not work for me :(
H
do you those round plastic rings to cut the pastry ?
my came with one of these. very easy to use. When i can’t find my cutter (BS has taken it) i just cut with a pair of scissors.BS= BAD SONQuotedo you those round plastic rings to cut the pastry ?
Yes Fundj, The two plastic rings came with the pie maker machine so they are the right size for the pie pan.
They are not of a particular high quality. I will check around the kitchen to see what else is the same size ....just in case they get lost or something.
Buy the Sunbeam - they are always the best
xxx
;D
I am stoked I bought the pie maker, it makes left overs into a totally different meal.
H :)
Andie, you will find your pie maker as soon as you buy the new one!
PS. I think you look very young in your photo on another thread. Thanks for posting it.
LOL Robyn I knew you would!! Did you see my cheeky post last week? :-* :-*
This one andie - looks so cute.
Maddy, are you looking at this ;)
I'd love to meet maddy's DH - he must be awesome to let her shop so much :D :D
Those do look good Andie ;) I bet you find your original pie maker when you get cooking with your new eBay acquisition :D :D
After talking about the pies I had made to my Mum, she informed me she had a larger (1 pie) maker, sitting in her cupboard, and I was welcome to it.
......I didn't know one existed....has anyone else seen one?

Xxx
;D
Maddy, I have the same sunbeam donut machine.
My kids love them, and I ice them , add sprinkles, or choc frogs too.
Do you know that you can also bake yeast doughnuts in the doughnut baker? I can't give you a recipe but a friend has one of the doughnut bakers and uses a small doughnut cutter, allows the cutouts to rise for twenty minutes or so and then transfers them to the baker.
They turn out very light, mostly hollow and quite crusty with none of the fat one gets with frying.
Some time to today i would like to try making cup cakes in the pie maker any tips maddy?
Andie, I just wanted to say that draping the pastry over a little tin before introducing them into the pie maker is a great idea which I shall be trying next time.
What a great idea andie, individual bread and butter puddings in the pie maker. Would never have thought of that :P :-* :-*
or introduce him to the kitchen... ;)
our bakery does egg and bacon sausage rolls .That's what our bakery does too. A few finely chopped bacon bits and cheese on top of the sausage roll.
and all they did is add egg, cheese and raw bacon to sausage roll mix and put them in puff pastry and roll like sausage rolls
Just bought some filo pastry. Has anyone used it in the pie maker?
H :)
Robyn we are going to have to organise that progressive dinner. :D :D :D
Michele, Amy of course.
We have to organize a get together up here.
I would of course do a lemmony dessert, we could laze on one of my decks, relaxing, as we sip champers.
Gert will come too.
Robyn ;D
The lemons may have not got her there Robyn but the champers might ;) ;D
Made the apple pies and added some cinnamon quite good would like a bit more flavour though

How do you make runny egg pies Amy - the pastry needs around 8 minutes, doesn't the egg go hard in that time?
My snack creations - pie maker turned up today!! :DI got mine today too, astarra! Have to make shortcrust pastry first, then decide what to try - thinking goats cheese, sundried tomatoes & chive quiche because I have the ingredients. Apart from the pastry that is
Where to start...? :)
Thanks for the bread idea Amy. A while back I bought a new jaffle maker as we both really enjoy a nice runny egg jaffle but the darn thing doesn't work for egg. By the time the outside is golden and crisp, the egg is hard. I will try making them like you do using the pie maker and this may be the solution. I daresay you have to butter the bread though whereas you don't need to grease anything when using pastry.
So you don't put a top on it Amy?
Tho I hadn't thought to call them 'runny egg pies' - probly cuz I'm not adventerous enough! :-))
Dh asked for the slowcooked beef in gravy from last night to be put into pies for his work lunches, so will be doing that today! :)
we spoil our men....
They both love to 'help' in the kitchen!! And eat even better if they have 'made it' !! I love cooking with them as it is spending time with them, they love it and we all get the end result!! A win-win situation all round!! :D
Don't do the step with the whisk thingy (tired can't think of the name ;)
There was enough veges for 2 batches so I'll freeze the rest for a Q&D side vege meal that the kids will fight over.
. . . quick & delicious . .?? ;D
I got the quick but could only think of dirty lol
I got the quick but could only think of dirty lolWe have a winner!
They sound really good Tony...might copy that!! :D
I made more beef, bacon and cheese pies for lunch today as we had leftover varoma beef and gravy from last night's dinner. :)
I will have to find it online Michelle, what brand is it, so I can go buy it.....Breville Rob, I bought mine on ebay.
Thanks..Robyn
I am buying the mini pie maker
Havent tried muffins, how long do you cook them for?
H :)
Wonder if Hardly Norman has one, or Big W. I want the little one..I have the little one too Robyn and couldn't find it at the shops but purchased it from breville factory online for $57.00 including postage.

Should get my pie maker back next week.
Don't laugh too much, gave it away last year. Now getting t back!
I have just purchased the book Handheld Pies as an ebook from Amazon via the Kindle store for $9.99
I now have to purchase a pie maker, off to the shops.
where did you order it from Astarra
That's no good Chookie, good thing it happened before the warranty ran out. I wonder why you have to wait for a replacement ???
I haven't tried anything in mine without a top (apart from custard tarts) - they look great.I just picked some spinich and collected 1 egg from my 3 chooks and made 1 open and 1 topped pie

I cut spinich added caramalised onion, crumbled some feta mixed the egg and some cream and this is my lunch.
I just made a big batch of meat pie filling then froze them in silicon muffin cups - they are a perfect size to fit into the pie maker for a quick meal.

What a good idea. I am off to fill my silicon cups with water to see if they match my pie maker. (remembering that the pastry will take up some of the pie maker room) I have several ideas for making pies ahead of Christmas and freezing them. It is sad that my suggestion of my egg and bacon pie which is a great favourite will probably not freeze well due to the whole egg content as frozen eggs go rubbery don't they?
Julie, OMG where is the cat...
Its ok, it is Christmas.
double take, as i am used to seeing the cat...
You press them out Hally then where the cuts are, you sort of pleat them into a little basket. Do you know what I mean? You then pick up the 'basket' and place it into the pie maker. Doesn't it tell you to do this in the book or have I just presumed this is the way to do it? It is so easy.rather than try and pleat them, I cut from the outside of the pastry circle into the centre of the circle and then overlap it to fit into the required space.
;D Hally, I do egg and bacon pie, quiche Lorraine, zucchini slice/quiche, ideas are endless.
Chicken or meat pies using leftover casseroles or curries, spinach and riccotta is good.
Maybe my pie maker does make bigger pies ??? ??? There is just no way I can get 4 bases out of one sheet of pastry. The cutter for the bases measures 15.5cm in diameter ....... is that the same size as yours?
Either that, or else I am buying different pastry ...... I am using Borg's brand of pastry.
I've printed out your summary of ideas for the fillings dustbunny, I love those lists of yours. Thank you.+1 - and thanks from me too, dustbunny. :D
Give the pastry a go! I've only made the EDC one for pies and it's been great. I've done that for the base and bought puff sheets for the top, but I think I prefer just the EDC pastry for the lot.
I was scared of pastry, and for the pies was my first attempt in years (first ever TMX attempt) and now I make all sorts of pies.
