Fab. Bol. Sauce.
This may look like a long recipe but makes 18 to 20 cups of sauce. It can be frozen. There are many ways it can be used and when using the outstanding produce from our Farmer's Markets it makes a delicious and slightly different sauce.
Jillian Ryan and Robyn Harris of PORK FROM THE PADDOCK were selling 3 ks of Minced Beef for $24. I used 2 Ks of Minced beef in this recipe, so that is less than $1 a serve for the beef in this recipe.
Need
2 Ks of minced beef
2 Tablespoons of Olive Oil
2 large brown onions, diced
4 cloves of garlic, crushed
4 x 400g tins of diced tomatoes. ( or 1 K of fresh tomatoes )
350g, tomato paste
2 large carrots diced small
2 large sticks of celery, diced small
2 zucchini , sliced
2 hand fulls of mushrooms sliced
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
2 Tablespoons of Golden Syrup
Do
YOU NEED A VERY LARGE PAN FOR THIS RECIPE
Gently fry the onion and garlic in the Olive oil
Add minced beef and cook until there are no raw bits of meat evident.
Add vegetables and stir into meat, breaking up any large lumps.
Cook this mixture for 10 mins, turning every few minutes.
Add tinned tomatoes and paste, rinse out each tin with 1/2 cup of water and add to mix.
Add Cinnamon and Golden Syrup and simmer for 3 hours, stirring so that sauce doesn't catch on bottom of pan.
Notes.
Can add different vegetables, or Pesto , or a tin of beans, chilli or parsley
Serve with Parmesan Cheese.
This sauce can be used in, Spaghetti Bolognaise
Savory Pancakes
Fill Potatoes
On Pizzas
Lasagne
Pasta Bake.
Producers.
Pork From the Padock
Kyneton Olive Oil
Garlic, John Cole
Vegetables, various producers
Fresh Tomatoes, Golden Triangle Hydroponics

I wrote this recipe for the Farmers' Market. for which I am the recipe developer. It is on my Farmers market Blog. I have tried to take a hard copy but it refuses to copy. I have transferred it over to here as I can take a copy from here. I can remove it if is is seen as not in the best interest of this Forum. I didn't intend to post it here as there are already excellent recipes for Spag. Bol. Cookie or Judy , feel free to remove it , or ask me to do so.

Sounds nicer than the "In The Mix" spag bol. Will try next week for sure!
-
Thx Chookie. We are big lovers of spaghetti bol in this family, and I'm sure yours is a goodie.
-
You could make 1/2.
I chopped the onion and garlic in the TMX, and also the veggies, but not the mushrooms.
Should I leave the recipe on. ??
-
Yes please leave the recipe Chookie.
I often make a large batch for the freezer and I'd love to try your recipe next time I make it.
-
Most definitely Chookie, it's in the non-Thermomix section where anything goes. I used to enjoy my spag bol prior to TMX, haven't since though so it must be better cooked on the stove top. I will try it next time we have it - I usually only do it twice a year at the most.
-
Yes definitely. I can't print it off yet until tomorrow :D
-
oh yes chookie please leave it here it sounds like a fabulous recipe
l love to cook spag bog in bulk as l turn some into lasagna and freeze extra meals for when l work
thank you
do you think this would fit into a 6 litre slow cooker
-
Identical to mine apart from the golden syrup. I use red wine instead. Never thought of golden syrup :)
H :)
-
Please leave it on here Chookie as I want to make this during the week.
-
Nazar, measure 22 cups into your slow cooker, as the finished amount is 18/20 cups. This will leave room for evaporation.
-
what a good idea . l should of thought of that silly me
-
Have this on cooking now, some in the slow cooker the rest on the stove top.

Though it best to take some out or I would come home from work this pm to sauce every where lol. I all ways find that there is alway more liquid from the condensation in the slow cooker, next time I think I will make half quantity next time :)
-
Jen, it makes a lot. Looks good though.
-
This sauce lives up to its name, its FAB, it made 20 cups plus what DS eat when he can home from work, :D
Very economic as it cost me $1.35 per serve. 4 containers in the freezer and what we had for dinner, will definitely be making this again. Thanks Chookie for the great recipe.
-
Jen, so glad you like it. Bit of a fuss to make, but as it makes a lot and can be frozen, worth the effort.
-
Will be giving this recipe a go soon.
I will cook the 2kgs of mince and make a lasagna and cannelloni for the freezer or the kids to take home.
-
Michele, it makes a lot.!!!! Hope your kids are hungry. Enjoy.
-
Michele, I cook up 1kg & it feeds about 12 serves.
Chookie, temted to replace my red wine with the golden syrup, does it make it sweet?
H
-
Hally the golden syrup cuts the acidness of the tomatoes it would be like adding sugar, also bring out the flavour of the tomatoes.
I used to use red wine but think i will be adding golden syrup after making this recipe.
I didnt find it sweet at all.
-
just had a good laugh, Michelle Bridges, The diet and exercise lady, has just posted a Bol recipe in the Age. It doesn't have the Golden Syrup or Cinnamon, but is pretty much the same.
Hally, I think Jen has it worked out.
-
This recipe sounds good and will give it a try was going to make it tonight but my golden syrup was finished.
I don't like red wine in my bolognaise sauce so this is appealing. :)
-
Thanks jen & chookie.
I have never had a problem with acidity in my sauces, I made - kg of mince yesterday but stuck to my old method, next time will try with golden syrup. Wonder which has less calories a glass of red wine or the gs.
H :)
-
I think the red wine would win Hally.
I came up with 91 calories for a glass of red wine and 21 calories for 1 tspn golden syrup which equals say 3 tsp per tablespoon - 6 x 21 =126 calories. Open to opinions though, that is just my calculations.
-
love red wine JD but really like the idea of gs, will have to use both
-
Don't think the calories are important over 20 cups of sauce. ;D
-
Exactly my sentiments too
-
Good thinking sue-Jen will try adding both next time, Dh loves it when I cook with wine as he gets to finish off the bottle 😃
-
I usually put anchovies in MySpace bog, I guess it is a bit like using umami. I will definitely give this a go though.

Interesting ,Cookie.
-
Yes, put anchovies on my PC osso bucco too. Noticed at some nearby fresh food markets a tube of Unami paste...
-
will have to make this. thanks.
-
I've just finished cooking this and halved the recipe.Smells gorgeous ;D I did chop all veg in the TM including the mushrooms. It's going in the freezer to feed family next week ;)
Thanks Chookie :-* :-*
-
CC, it is very handy to have in the freezer. Good on top of baked pots, pizza and a lasagna.
-
I made half the recipe this time, chopped veg in TM added some cherry tomatoes that needed using up, half a cinnamon stick, this has a really lovey rich flavor, much better flavor than when I cooked it the slow cooker.
-
Good Jen, did you cook it in the TMX, or stove top?
-
On the stove top chookie.
-
Bumping . . . this is great! Thanks Chookie!! ;D
-
Making this today, we love this recipe.
-
Jen, also making today, to share with friend who has had an op on arm. Easy to keep in freezer and reheat.
-
This is quite similar to the recipe I use but I've never added the golden syrup or cinnamon, will have to give it a try next time. We always make up 2kgs of mince and then freeze it all in single meal size portions. If I'm using for macaroni bake I use two portions plus and extra bottle of passata to thin it down.
-
Wonder, that is a good idea. I think the recipe is pretty basic, except for the cinnamon and golden syrup.
-
Bumping - making this soon for the freezer . . :)
-
I've halved the recipe this time, this on cooking now, for dinner and will freeze the rest.
-
This is a great recipe Chookie, the GKs tucked into it yesterday (one wanted penne and the other wanted mashed potato instead of pasta). Tonight I had it over stir fried zucchini 'pasta', could have eaten twice as much. Dee-licious, thanks for sharing. I made 1/2 quantity.
-
Judy, glad you all enjoyed it. I always keep some in the freezer. Nice photo, thanks.
