Judy I made this dessert today and it is wonderful!  Reminds me a bit of the Cottee's Vanilla Pudding (only nicer) that you can buy which got me thinking of trying a strawberry version.  Thought I could blitz some strawberries then push through a sieve to get rid of the seeds, then add to the custard just before adding the whisked egg whites, what do you think?  Will try it later in the week and will report back how it turns out.

I served in pretty cups for a change which made it seem extra special.  Thanks for a great recipe and conversion.  :D

Glad you liked it Julie - I was hoping it would be a hit as it has been for such a long time in this household.  It deserves special presentation I feel and just looking at your picture makes me feel as if it has come from my kitchen as I also have that dinner set and it brings back memories of the dinner parties we used to have and my very special friend who did the French cooking class. She called in to my place on the way home with it so that I could have a taste and she would be so pleased to know it is still doing the rounds.

Will be interested to see how you fare with a strawberry version.

A beautiful photo Julie. Made even better by the containers.

Yikes, I left the sugar out of my recipe.  Have amended it to read 100g sugar.  Julie, did you actually make it without?

Discovered it whilst making another batch to use as the base in a cherry tart I am attempting .

Thanks chdv  ;D

Judy, have just seen your previous post and have checked the recipe that I used.  Yes, didn't use any sugar and I would have mentioned it if I thought it needed it  :o  The little bit in with the eggwhites must have been enough for us.  :)

I've amended the recipe to say you can add it or leave it out if you wish.  Thanks for the feedback Julie and Fundj.  Did you ever try a strawberry version Julie?
