Once I was  waiting  around for a Caesar to turn up in the OT. In the nurses lounge we had a bag of macadamias . The wardsman and I decided to crack a few  without a tool . Eventually he put some in the hinge of the  heavy swinging door into the theatre and flung it hard. The macadamia won. I had to,call out the hospital, engineer on a Sunday morning to fix it.  Naturally we never owned up to it. While the door was being repaired I  unwrapped a lovely  sterile solid metal hammer  used in orthopaedics  not remembering it was to be used the next morning for a hip replacement. I then had to explain to,the sterilising unit manager  how I came to open the package  and why it had to be re sterilised right away for for the morning list. Of course I explained that it had fallen off the shelf while I was cleaning and had a wee hole  in the package.

The nuts were lovely.

No not al all JD. There are a lot of very interesting items in the store room of an operating theatre including a lovely boxed set of glass eyeballs just to mention one?  Lovely to find one staring up at you  from the bottom of your soup bowl.

I think mcmich it was about the challenge of cracking them  opened and using our imagination.  They certainly are a very hard nut to crack.
If the hammer had not worked I remember I was going to open the bolt cutters next. That really would  have been hard to,explain.

That is hysterical ;D

Nurses have their own sense of humour.

Just give  us a bottle of gentian violet  or iodine.  The possibilities are endless eh?

Yes it is. It was widely used as an anti bacterial and anti fungal. It could cause some staining to the skin if not cleaned  properly. It was used in inks and was early on used in fingerprinting.

I have two small round tattoos  on my body  where a needle which was dipped into gentian violet  and then pricked on my skin to mark the perimeter of  radiation therapy when I had breast cancer.

Kids used to use it for home made tattooing years ago.  If they knew I guess they would use it today.

It is still used for herpes zoster.
