"Specials" are certainly a double edged sword!  I generally stay well away from them, unless they are already on my shopping list.  Fortunately I am pretty disciplined when I shop and rarely impulse buy.

At work, my suppliers are always saying "well, if you buy 30 of these you will save $$$$$" - well, that's great, but buying 30 of one item on "special" uses up my budget so that means we cannot buy what we really need - but that is what the suppliers / retailers want - get you to spend all your money with them so that you cannot spend elsewhere.

Ok I spent a little more as I brought 2 family packs of arnotts biscuits @$1.99 each and some lemon butter to make fundj's condensed milk cheese cake. And I got 6 litres of milk and 8 loaves of bread for $30.05 :D
Will keep a track of my spending and let you know total at end of f/night.

dede have you not made lemon curd in the  *: ?

No fundj I haven't. Was a last minute decision to make cheese cake. :)
I'm not a big lemon fan so never thought of making it before. :)

me 2 not a fan of lemony things but the curd is very nice maybe becauce of all of the butter and eggs  :-)) i really like it

I just had a look at Tenina's recipe, nice and easy to make. I will give it a try when I run out of lemon butter (next time I make your cheese cake) ;D

I havent tried teninas recioe, but  we all love this one from The British Larder
Lemon curd
125ml fresh lemon juice
125g caster sugar
2 whole medium free range eggs
2 medium free range egg yolks
125g cold unsalted butter, cut into very small pieces
pinch of salt
Method:
Using the built in weighing scales weigh the freshly squeezes lemon juice, caster sugar, salt, egg yolks and whole eggs directly into the Thermomix bowl, blitz for 10 seconds on speed 8, scrape the sides down, insert the butterfly whisk. Set the timer for 5 minutes at 70°C, speed 4.
Cut the cold butter into small even size pieces, set the timer for 2 minutes at 70°C, speed 2 and slowly drop the pieces of cold butter through the hole onto the curd.
Scrape the sides down, remove the butterfly whisk and secure the lid, blitz the curd for 20 seconds on speed 9, transfer the curd to a clean container and place a piece of clingfilm directly on top of the curd to prevent it from forming a skin, let the curd cool.
Once cooled keep refrigerated until needed.

this is the 1 i use
 if this recipe belongs to anyone on the forum i would like to say thank you  ;D

lemon curd
80 g lemon juice
80 g cater sugar
50 g butter unsalted
1 teaspoons lemon or orange zest
2 eggs large

mix on speed 6 for 15 sec scrape down sides

cook on 80 for 7 mins on speed 4 with the butterfly in place

Well I blew the budget last week, spent around $140. That includes around $38 for an antipasto platter for a dinner at a weekend house party which we didn't end up going to because DD7 is sick. Had some of the antipasto for lunch on Saturday then took the rest to the house party on Sunday - only a day late!
Starting again today, but I suspect I'll go over again. Combination of DD7 being sick, me coming down with it, and DD8's slumber party for her birthday this saturday. Not in the mood to menu plan!

Deedub, I dont think you can count the antipasto plate, thats not normal everyday living feeding so many on such an expensive platter.

I think as the weeks go by it will get harder & harder as we run out of more expensive items, will be interesting to see how we all go.

Make some chicken soup & hope you all get better.

I buy meat in bulk so meat doesnt count, i have bought sausages, ham, bacon which I have included, as they are small amounts.

CP I will give that miracle spray a go.  I checked it out on her blog and you need to mix the Lectric washing soda with the boiling water first to dissolve it then add the remaining ingredients.   Loved the picture of the before and after shower recess, that alone speaks volumes.

Dede, Lemon curd is so easy to make, especially with all my lemons.... ;D

CP. that site is great for so many savings on cleaning, using vinegar, bi carb ect.
Lextric soda is on the bottom shelf in the cleaning isle, so cheap to make your own washing powder.

Bi carb soda, is sold cheaper at pool shops in bulk too.

I buy my floor cleaner in bulk 5 liters at a time. It lasts about 4 months.

I just made some of this miracle spray up and so far it is really doing a great job. It cleans the grout between my tiles really well, and my tiles are sparkling :)
And smells pretty good too with the eucalyptus oil added.

 last week i went to the supermarket twice- bought diced rump steak 2kg- one kg for my beef casserole (pressure cooker) which lasted 3 days and the other half for the hungarian goulash which also lasted 3 days. Plenty of lemons at the moment on our tree so have made lemon curd and the total of the two trips has been $84 including 1 kg of blue grenadier that i pan fried with vietnamese flavours and everyone was happy. I even found blocks of Lindt chocolate that were $1.88 each- i have to hide them from my DH (NOT ME!) as he normally gets to the chocolate before I ever do!
