Post by: obbie on September 19, 2012, 02:36:53 am
What is your favourite quote.... :)

“It’s a funny thing about life; if you refuse to accept anything but the best, you very often get it.”

-W. Somerset Maugham
English dramatist & novelist (1874 – 1965)

 :)

Life isn't about the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away.

"a room without books is like a body without a soul" - seen in a bookshop window, natch!
I think this is MJ's - "I love to cook with wine, sometimes I even put it in the food" - always smile at that one.

"You are as fit as a fart"
"Like a fart up a curtain pole"
"A farting horse never tires"

All courtesy of my 90 year old Grandma! I'm sure she has others - but she has been saying these ones for as long as I can remember and they have stuck in my head. That could be due to her not ever swearing, so the word "fart" was truely shocking to a small child - and worthy of quite a few giggles!

She also used to say "sugar honey iced tea" when things were pretty bad, but in her old age has progressed to just plain old "sh**t" now.

And an old cowboy saying - not too sure where it came from, "Don't squat with your spurs on". And yes...I have learned the hard way to take heed of that one, didn't realise my spurs were so sharp!!!

One from my Mum... "Don't squat in spinifex country" we use that one a lot when we are out camping in the spinifex!

"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams."

"Don’t ever frown, because you don’t know who’s falling in love with your smile."

"Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly."

"A true friend is someone who reaches for your hand and touches your heart."

"If you can’t see the bright side of life, polish the dull side."

I just raided my quote collection ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

LISTEN--- WHEN YOU HAVE WIPED MY ASS AS OFTEN AS I HAVE WIPED YOURS.... THEN WE WILL DO YOUR WAY ...BUT UNTIL THEN ....GET IN THE CAR NOW... PUT THOSE SHOES ON...or what ever the case maybe.

and it appears if may become a pass on through my children ... my eldest daughter admitted to me that she used this on her children the other day  ;D...kekekek.

Oooh - great thread I love quotes!

Here are some of my faves:

Did anyone ever tell you that you matter? Did anyone every let you know how much of a difference you make?Did you know that even your smile can really brighten someone's day? It's not so much your accomplishments that make you great, It's the fact that you reach out from your heart. Every time you do, you are revealing your greatness,And you are helping to make our world a much better place.Thank you!

Purple is a fruit

Everything happens for a reason - except things you stuff up by yourself :)

Life is DIY

The only constant is change

It isn't about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!

Today is the youngest i'll ever be, better start appreciating it. It’s also the oldest I've ever been, better start acting like it

Title: Words of Wisdom ... or not??
Post by: Cuilidh on June 10, 2014, 07:18:27 am
Some of you may recall that there was a thread on here a year or two ago listing everyone's favourite sayings.  Unfortunately I cannot find that thread to add to it because I read a couple of Ricky Gervais' today (they were actually tweets - but at tweet is as good as a saying in my book) which I thought some of you might enjoy.  Hope no one is offended by any of them, that is not my intention - this is just for fun.

Anyway, here they are, hope you get a laugh out of them.

"I agree with Justin Bieber. Anne Frank would’ve loved his stuff. It’s perfect for being played really really quietly so no one can hear it.”

“When you are dead, you do not know you are dead. It’s only painful & difficult for others. The same applies when you are stupid.”

“Everyone has the right to hold whatever beliefs they want. And everyone else has the right to find those beliefs [CENSORED] ridiculous.”

“Your God is the best God. In fact, he’s the only God. All other Gods are ridiculous, made up rubbish. Not yours though. Yours is real.”

- “Just because you’re offended, doesn’t mean you’re right. Some people are offended by mixed marriage, gay people, atheism. So what? [CENSORED]”

- “Same sex marriage isn’t gay privilege, it’s equal rights. Privilege would be something like gay people not paying taxes. Like churches don’t.”

I'm not sure where these came from.

"I believe friends are like quiet angels who lift our feet when our wings forget to fly"

"It takes thirteen muscles to frown and only two to smile why strain yourself"

"The man who said it can't be done should not interupt the woman doing it"

Amy I loved your quote collection; I collect them to use in my family history scrapbook and there are some great ones out there.

Some people make the world special just by being in it.

While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about. Angela Schwindt.

It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.

Teaching kids to count is fine but teaching them what counts is best.

If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun. Katherine Hepburn.

Just a few.
