Have decided last nite to do a street party.
I need finger food ideas :)
we can set up a BBQ
I'm thinking kebabs, sausages, rissoles on a BBQ
and take down finger food to pass around.
Any ideas, thanks... :)

Meatballs cooked on the BBQ, skewer with toothpicks and serve with a tomato chutney?
I would keep it super simple - meat cooked on BBQ, bread salads and then cakes and slices for dessert.
Those parties are so much fun, no one cares if its just sausages and bread!

I've never been to a street party, but it sounds like fun :D
You could do some cake pops Robyn? They would be easy for people to grab. And fruit kebabs with marshmallows? What about some of johnro's fudge? Brownies, cupcakes, jelly cups.... ;D
You could pass around plates of cold mini quiches, sandwiches, deli meats rolled up with cheese and filled with chutney and skewered with toothpicks, cheese on crackers... um.... :-))

If I were going to a street party I would bring 100 small chicken sausage rolls and a bucket of prawns and my esky of course.

Obbie, how are you organising this, door kocking. Do you know your neighbours?
We thought ofnhaving a few over for drinks etc, but a street party would be much better,

Hally, we really know a fair few in the estate, as they have been there for a fair few years.
Just ring up, or email, and say street party tomorrow, (what time) grab drinks, chairs, and what ever biccies, dips, food stuff you have on hand already. Set a a BBQ, and enjoy. the company. i'm thing kebabs, sausages ect for a bbq. pizzas cut up, easy finger food.
Not too much pressure, all plastic plates, serviettes. no clean up really.
It worked last year.

When we lived in a cul de sac when my kids were all at home we had street parties. There were 12 homes in the street and we used to set up tables at the end of the cup de sac. Each family brought a sweet and a savoury dish, easy type finger food, and of course some drinks. The food was for sharing and not complicated and it was so much fun. Sometimes a barbie was set up but the platters were easier and relaxing for everyone.

Another suggestion for you Robyn which I do quite often is buy a pack of those little mini pate toasts, spread on a layer of black olive tapenade, then a slice of baby bocconcini, semi sun dried tomato and top it off with a fresh basil leaf and a drizzle of evoo. They're always really popular, look great on a platter, are great finger food and they also look festive with the red and green! ;D

Make up a big batch of stir fry veg and noodles (like singapore noodles) and serve in little noodle boxes or paper cups. Noodles are cheap and a little goes a long way.

Hally, what a great way to get to know the neighbours. Type out a leaflet with the details and a cut off RSVP on the bottom of the page. Do a letterbox drop around the street.
I'm sure everyone will get in the spirit and it will become an annual event.

We have fun, easy to organize. say, grab some nibbles and drinks and join in..

We have a street Xmas party every year. It is always a great afternoon/evening. Everyone brings something to share and their own chairs and drinks. We even have a piņata for the kids - each household with children supplies a packet of wrapped lollies or chocolate and the piņata is hung from a tree branch and we start with the youngest children first. So that there are no tears the older kids divide the spoils up and everyone gets a little bag of goodies. If it is really hot we take over someone's garage and partly close the automatic door. If it is not too hot then a game of street cricket is the go. We go inside as soon as the mozzies start dive bombing!

Sounds like fun - unfortunately too much traffic on our street & hardly anyone has off street parking, so no garages. Pity, I'm sure we'd get good numbers there's plenty of families in our block & some lovely older people too.

All oldies here, all kids left home & moved to cheaper areas.
Thinking, but doubt it.
Would love more kids in the street.
Next door is building, i think they have 2 teenage girls, would have been great if they had boys.

I grew up in a cul-de-sac with loads of kids. We didn't have a street party but we did do the progressive dinner, quite fashionable in the 60's early 70's. It was spread over 5 houses. Mum wasn't much of a cook and always stressed when it was our turn to host the main meal, which I only think happened about twice. She was much more comfortable with dessert and she mostly bought those. :D

We organise a "street" party each year. Flyers are dropped into about 170 letter boxes and the venue alternates each year from the local tennis club and the surf club, both of which are licensed and happy to earn some money. Everyone loves it and they get to meet people from around the block etc. Everyone brings a plate to share. At the door people write their names on a sticker and put it on. People love it!
We then have a more casual one for direct neighbors and bring a chair, plate, bottle and plonk ourselves in the little park across the road. We had it on Xmas eve a couple of years ago (never again!)
