Cheryl is lovely isn't she ILB? Ever so helpful!!! But delivered by her hubby...that's special!! LOL!! :D
Did you try the bread mix yet? Did you like it?
I have been able to order it from my local health food shop. They've never had it before so couldn't give me their price!! Cheryl tells me RRP is $9.95 for 1kg bag.

Thanks Thermomixer. Thought it was just chit chat as it wasn't an actual recipe!! Silly me didn't think that if someone needing GF would be looking here for info and not in chit chat!!! :D

Chit Chat / New Gluten Free bread mix
« on: June 19, 2010, 08:33:07 am »
Hi All,

Just wanted to let those that are gluten free that my sister has told me about a new gluten free bread mix. It is fantastic!! It rises, smells and cooks and even tastes like real bread!! Its called F.G. Roberts Cottage Bread Mix.
Go look at this site: www.glutenfreehealth.com.au/HomeBakers.htm

They sent me 2 x 200g sample bags of the mix. They make a small 400g loaf, but I just made one of the bags into rolls!! YUM!! they taste so good!! You can order straight from them, but you have to add postage to the price!! Apparently it comes in 1kg, 5kg and 12kg bags.
I whizzed my sample bag in the Thermomix and its great! The packet says to do it by hand, but why should we when we have such a fantastic machine to help us!!! My rolls were a bit pale on top, but after talking with my sister she told me to brush them with milk next time and it all browns nicely.
Just thought I'd pass on the great news!!!  ;D

Jams and Chutneys / Chocolate Macadamia Spread
« on: June 19, 2010, 06:25:42 am »
Hi All,

I tired the Chocolate Hazelnut Spread recipe from the EDC and mine was grainy too, so seeing I LOVE macadamia nuts and had some in my fridge thought I might try and change the recipe a little!!
So using the same recipe I just made a few changes.

Chocolate Macadamia Spread

80g Sugar
60g Macadamias
100g Dark Chocolate, broken into pieces
70g Soft Butter
100g Milk

Put Macadamias in TM bowl and Dry roast for 6-8 mins on speed 1. Set aside.
Let TM cool down. Put sugar in TM bowl and pulverise for 8 - 10 seconds on speed 9. Set aside.
Put chocolate in TM bowl and mill for 8 - 10 seconds on speed 8. Set aside.
Put macadamias in TM bowl and grind for 15 seconds on speed 8 (or until it looks like a paste, not just meal!!) Add the sugar, chocolate, butter and milk and heat for 6 minutes at 50 degrees c on speed 3. Place in sterilized jars and place in the fridge.
ENJOY!!!

This is so creamy and yummy. Mine is a little stiff when I get it out of the fridge, so might add a little more milk or butter next time. My 17yr old DS LOVES it, I find teaspoon holes in it when I go to the fridge..... that's how he has been eating it, not even on bread sometimes!!!

Hi Thermomixer,

I made this a couple of weeks ago. It was great!! My DH and youngest DS devoured it and they aren't gluten free, so it must be really good!! Thanks heaps.

Terri.

Chit Chat / Re: Sorbets - what fruits/flavours have you tried
« on: April 15, 2010, 01:57:27 am »
We've tried rockmelon, orange, berries, (usually raspberry or blueberry), and lychee with coconut milk and the last time we added some lime juice. Very yum!! We just froze the coconut milk in a container and turned it out when frozen and chopped it into chunks, same with a tin of lychees. With the syrup from the tin we didn't need to use sugar and also used less ice cubes. We don't usually use the egg white in our sorbets, but you can.

Lychee sorbet - very summery, but still like it now!!! We made it the other day while we were away visiting friends in the country, who also have a TMX, but have tried other flavours of sorbet,. They absolutely loved the lychee sorbet. They have teenagers and they thought it was the best sorbet they'd tried!!

Chit Chat / Re: Tassie people
« on: March 15, 2010, 06:15:04 am »
Hi Chelsea,

Its the farmer's market.  On Saturday she made cheesecake slice, cakes/muffins, lamingtons, choc chip cookies and fudge. She said all she had left was 4 cookies and 4 pieces of fudge, so she did well this week. She started a few weeks ago, and she said word is getting out about the gluten free goodies!! Do you need to eat gluten free?

Chit Chat / Tassie people
« on: March 14, 2010, 08:57:57 am »
Hi, Just wondered if anyone from Tassie is in this group? My niece lives in Tassie and has a son who is coeliac and has started making gluten free goodies and selling them at the Davenport Markets. She has a TMX and says it helps her heaps. She has started this because she said it's not fair that people that need special diets have to pay lots more for food or treats, so thought it was better to make her own and now is selling her treats at the markets, obviously for less than you have to pay in a shop!!! Just wanted to let you know, if anyone goes there say "Hi" to her, she is just a wonderful young woman!!!

I have found a gluten free Oreo recipe that I want to try and convert for the TMX. When I do I will post it!!!
