I love your idea also Caroline.  Another one to keep up my sleeve!

I know this is going to sound hugely old-fashioned but I find one of the best ways to get my children eating well at meal-times is to ensure that they have heaps of fresh air and exercise throughout the day to build up a big appetite.  We have recently moved to the country and my boys are spending all day outside chasing chooks and digging holes and now have an enormous appetite.  Even today when it was raining they were out in their gumboots and coats attempting to climb an apple tree (very cute).  They have gone from being a little fussy, to not caring a great deal about what is served, just as long as there is plenty of it.  Also, when they are a bit fussy or not overly enthused it is often because I have overdone the snacks in between meals or they have had a big drink too close to dinner- time.

Just something else to ponder . . . . . :)

Hi Mandi,

Another Thermie Groupie from Tassie - hooray!!!  Where are you in the North-West?  We live just outside Forth.  Is your demo consultant Sally Bond?  She is just wonderful and thankfully never complains about all of my phone calls and questions!

Hope you are able to buy your own thermie very soon!!!!

Recipe Book Recipe Reviews / Re: Pasta Fagioli

This dish has become a bit of a staple in my family.  I think it is very bland, but my two little boys absolutely love it.  I put 500gms of pasta in and tip it into the thermoserve for 10 minutes to thicken before serving (they like it thick - a bit like mac cheese).  It is a healthy, quick option for the boys when Hubby and I are having something that they don't like, but not overly inspiring.

Has anyone modified the recipe and added anything to spice it up a bit???

Thanks guys.  We all have our challenges as parents - I'm just hoping that I've got a lot of them out of the way already :). Thankfully I now have two very healthy little boys and we are all getting some sleep at night - hooray!!!  Chelsea

Thanks Judy.  I'm not sure about being a great Mum (speaking for myself only), but our thermomix certainly helps things along in the kitchen.  I just have to make sure I find time for my kids each day - they are in danger of becoming thermomix orphans (just joking - really).  Everyday I seem to love it more and more.  Not sure it is entirely healthy to have such strong feelings for a machine  :).

Thanks Caroline.  That was just the answer I was hoping for.  It will cost about $100 AU for me to buy the two main books (the basic one and the demonstrator delights book) including postage, so I just wanted to check that they were different and worth buying.

I bought my thermomix simply because I wanted something for me.  Something to inspire me, something I could "tinker" with and something that could take me away from baby-land for brief periods during the day.  When I went to the tmx demo (my first child-free outing in months), I fell in love with the machine and felt that it was just what I needed in my life.  I was wanting to get back into cooking (beyond survival cooking) but was struggling to find the time.  I just knew tmx would help me out.

On my way home from the demo I thought of all the reasons to tell my husband why I really needed and deserved one (you can justify almost anything if you really try!!).  Being a Mother (or parent) should automatically qualify you for a tmx in my opinion, but I had my back-up reasons prepared just in case.  Becoming a Mother in Ethiopia, our baby being so sick over there, contracting a rare strain of salmonella in Ethiopia that took me months to fight off, Paddy's hugely traumatic (and ridiculously drug-free) birth, Paddy's sleep condition (not sleeping for longer than 40 minutes day or night for months) . . . . . oh woe is me. . . . .  my poor hubby didn't stand a chance.  As it was, he thought it was a great idea and really encouraged me to buy one.  I shouldn't have doubted him!

Apart from my love of thermomix cooking and "tinkering with it" the other main reason why I would never part with my thermie is the change I have noticed in our eldest son.  He is greatly affected by the preservatives in many commercial breads and in other foods also.  He is so much calmer and settled now that we are cooking almost everything in our thermie.  It has been wonderful to see and I dread going places now where I know he will eat highly processed and preservative packed food.

I guess we all have our own reasons, but I doubt any of us would ever part with our beloved machines for even a week.

Thanks Thermomixer.  I actually just stumbled upon the emails then that I had originally read about the UK books (including some from Caroline).  They were under the UK Lemon Curd recipe in the jams and chutney section.  I knew Caroline had already discussed them in detail, but just couldn't locate the emails again.

Tonight I made the Italian shepherds pie for dinner and the lemon pudding surprise cake (from the UK thermomix recipe website) followed for dessert.  We needed winter warmer comfort food after a big couple of days at Cradle Mountain (stunning, but no snow  :().

Thanks Judy.

That was the section I was referring too (and probably where I should have posted this question  ;D).  Spot the newbie!

Chelsea   :)

P.S - If anyone else has thoughts about the English cookbooks I would love to hear them however.

Hi all,

I know this question has come up before but I have been searching through older forum emails and just can't find the answer (I have seen it mentioned before though).

Do people generally think that the two main UK tmx cookbooks are worth buying?  Do they contain mainly different recipes to ours in Australia?  I'm considering buying them, but would like to know what they are like first.

Thanks in advance and sorry to bring this up again.

Hi Thermomixer,

Fee isn't my consultant, but she does do most of the cooking classes I attend in Launceston.

She is certainly a wonderful Chef.

Hi Chelsea!  welcome

which part of tassie are you in? i have a few friends around the launceston / ulverstone way who are interested in seeing a tmx but thought there was no one in tassie to demo them! would love your contact if they are not too far away!

We live just outside the village of Forth, which is only about 5 minutes inland from Ulverstone.  I attend tmx cooking classes in Launceston, which is about an hour away. I have a wonderful consultant (who is also a good friend) who lives about 10 minutes from our house (and from Ulverstone).  The main base for Thermomix in Tassie seems to be in Launceston, but it is branching out and has now hit the North-West.

My email is chris34c@gmail.com    Feel free to pass my email on to your friends or let me know if you would like cooking class details or my consultant's details for them.  Also, my thermie is always buzzing so they are welcome to drop by for a cuppa and a quick demo.

Introduce Yourself / A new Thermomix Groupie from Tasmania
« on: June 04, 2009, 04:16:49 am »
Hi all,

My name is Chelsea and I am from Tasmania, Australia.  I am married with two beautiful little boys that I stay home and care for. My boys are aged 1 and 3 and are two very adorable little scamps.  We adopted our eldest son from Ethiopia and our youngest son is home grown.  Both of our boys have sensitivities to certain food preservatives and our eldest is also hugely affected by sugar (sends him troppo).  In my former life (that is truly what it feels like), I was a school teacher.  But enough about me . . . . thermie-talk is much more interesting I'm sure!

I have had my thermomix for several months now and am still totally besotted with it. I use it everyday, an average of 5 times a day and suffer withdrawals if i am away from it too long.  Very sad I know.  To start with I thought I would just use it mainly for juices and meals.  As the weeks progressed I started to make lots more things (soups, cakes, muesli bars, drinks, breads, risottos, jams, sauces, butter, scones etc).  I have used it to cook dinner every night since it was delivered! The packets in my pantry were pushed to the back and were replaced with things like grains, dried fruits, lentils, nuts and heaps more fruit and veg.  We had never been really unhealthy, but looking back we did have far too many things from packets!  Now, I wizz up almost all of our food in the thermie and don't spend a great deal more time in the kitchen.  I'm addicted!!!

I look forward to chatting with you all and swapping some thermie recipes.

Cheers, Chelsea.
