Cakes / Chocolate Raspberry Pudding Cake
« on: April 21, 2013, 03:53:31 am »
I made this wonderful recipe from the Muttering Housewife Blogg.

http://mutteringhousewife.com/2013/04/15/chocolate-raspberry-pudding-cake-in-the-thermomix/

Just felt like something sweet.

Didn't have dark chocolate but found some white chocolate, a bit of cooking chocolate and some chocolate buds in the freezer.  Added up to 260 gms of choc.

Used Kirsch as no Frombois.

Only used 200 GM butter as I could not  bring myself to use the whole thing.

Used  all I had left of frozen raspberries. Didn't even weigh them.

No instant coffee in this house so made a really strong  espresso.

Made up  the liquid by straining the juice from the raspberries, the 45 mls of coffee and the rest water to make about 340 mls of liquid.

This cake/pudding is very forgiving as I am just a tosser at baking.  By that I mean I rarely weigh and measure anything exactly and just toss stuff in the Thermothingy. So whatever I did worked out as the cake is really delicious. I had just a small piece and was happy. DH is stoked because he can now eat the rest.

Super Kitchen Machine Helene posted a great VDO  for making mayo. If you have not made mayo before this is certainly  one for you to watch.  http://www.superkitchenmachine.com/2013/18954/thermomix-mayonnaise-recipe.html#comment-15294

Bianca Mazur makes it look so easy and it actually is. Well done to Bianca and to Helene for her posting

Don't know here this should go  moderators. Maybe we need a Fur Kids. Thread.

This is a non recipe sort of . Very flexible so long as you get the dough right.

In Thermothingy  put

3 cups of any combo of flours, semolina, polenta,
1/2 tsp salt
1tsp brown  sugar
1 tbs oil or butter or drippings
1 or two eggs
1/2 milk powder  (optional)
Liquid to make a dough.

I used a combo of  unsalted chicken stock,  and juices from cooked chicken livers.

I mixed all the ingredients then added the liquid through the lid until it came together then kneaded for about 2 minutes.

I then divided  the dough. Put half back into the bowl and added chopped cooked chicken livers, some parsley. And mixed. Rolled it out, cut into dog house shapes and cooked  200 c for 10 minutes.

The other half I put back into bowl added 1/2 cup grated cheese, some quark cheese I had plus parsley flakes. It was a wee bit wet so I added some more semolina. Put it in the fridge for 1/2  then rolled it out and cut it into bones . Bake it the same.

These are kept in the fridge.

Endless possibilities with combinations.

Elvis and Jaxon love these treats.

Chit Chat / Good Consultant Stories
« on: October 17, 2012, 08:53:06 am »
Well having just read the new rules , I was looking for a thread that was headed something like this. Not having found that scrolling through 50 pages of chit chat threads  I think it may be ok to start a new thread where we can put some positive  consultant stories and when we search that out we can find this thread easily.

Ok having prefaced that and probably not succinct enough but here goes.

A good consultant story from me. Ok I know what you are thinking. Be nice.

On October 14 I emailed my consultant who is now a group leader having tried the job of branch  manager finding it not to her liking. I think she is more of a hands on people person and this is a pretty big area up here with a fair amount of travelling  involved in being a manager.  In any case ....

On the 14th I emailed her that my Thermothingy needed servicing . On the 15th she replied asking what the problem was. I replied that  the switch was twitchy and I kept getting error 31 and 52 plus it kept turning itself back on. Also the faceplate  was losing it's charm as well as the numbers and one of the rubber buttons has a hole in it.

On the 16th she said it needed fixing ASAP ( I hope that is not shouting ).   This morning I had another email saying  she will be here at 1500 to pick it up. Which is what happened.

She is taking it home to check it out, packing it up and sending it to Brisbane .  I do not have to do a thing. My consultant, who had the good fortune to have a wonderful mother who named her daughter the same name as my daughter, is doing all the things a good consultant should do.

So there you have it A Good  Consultant Story.

Oh and BTW  my good consultant told me that Vorwerk was looking in to the  fact that the numbers, letters and symbols have a tendency to  slide off the front piece in the tropics.

So not only did she give good service but she gave good information.

Maybe I will add a pic with Tapatalk.

Don't forget to read the new rules everyone.

Chit Chat / Gert has Breast Cancer Scare Again. WARNING!
« on: October 03, 2012, 12:27:38 am »
Oh boy got your attention again. What next for me eh? Well  after having my ANNUAL mammogram I got a call back for a small lump near the scar from my previous surgery to remove a Cancerous lump from my breast.

Thank  you Breast Screen Queensland for picking this up. I am now in the coffee shop downstairs from the screening unit after having an ultra sound to determine  it was just a fatty lump. Well  imagine that. I am full of fatty lumps and not only in my breasts. This one was nothing at all.

So this is just another warning to those who have had breast Cancer. There are a  few  of us survivors here  who need to remember their mammograms. There  are many more  of us here who need to get started on their bi annual check ups especially if they have a mother who has had breast cancer.

So I am having a celebratory cup of coffee and hoping all you gals will make that appointment. I especially hope  those  who live in remote areas to not neglect this important health check and make sure they get their doctors to book them into the next remote clinic.

I have has two health  scares  in three weeks and got lucky. What will be the third and will I survive? You bet I will.
Thank goodness I had my Kindle with me. Long wait.

Chit Chat / Gert has HEART ATTACK! WARNING!
« on: September 27, 2012, 02:33:30 am »
OK did that get your  attention girls?

I even got out my keyboard fro my iPad to write this story/

Two weeks ago on a Sat morning while  walking  in Cairns Central Shopping Centre I felt  as if some two people had lassoed me. One tight under my breasts and one tight  above my breasts. The pain was a steady pull backward an radiated up to my jaw on both sides. That pain was sharper and worse there than the banding pain across my chest. Really scary. I felt slight nauseated ans started to sweat. I found a seat and sat. I looked up and around and spotted the sign pointing to the Medicall Centre up the next level.

I sat for a few minutes until the pain seemed to ease and made my way up to the Doctors.

I  must have given the receptionist a fright as she called the doctor out and he rushed me to the treatment room where he gave me a spray of NITROLINGUAL  [NITROGLYCERIN]  under the tongue of course. He then put  the oxygen on VIA mask and  ran out to get a  soluble aspirin which I swallowed.  He then put the cardiogram leads on and started an ECG.

Meanwhile the receptionist was trying to get some info from me.  I was slightly confused and  amused.  I never  use my Nanna mobile so had very little experience finding my daughters phone number. In any case I did  and she was told to meet me at the hospital. The doctor put a cannula in which was nice of hm as it saved the ambos from doing it.

The two female paramedics were there within 5 minutes. They delivered two more sprays of the NITROLINGUAL and I was in the hospital within ten minutes.

Blood was taken for cardiac enzymes. Another ECG  and I was observed.

My DH arrived immediately, took my shopping and the car keys. She drove home got DH and they went to pick up the car from the shopping centre.  When they came back I told them to bugger off as I would be there for some hours yet.

When you have a suspected heart attack blood is taken ASAP and then  at least 6 to 7 hours later to compare changes. So I knew I would have to stay.  I also had a chest X-ray.  MY blood tests were normal so I was allowed to leave.

Thank goodness I had my iPad but sadly not my  Kindle. I was worried  my batts would run out but not so. Luckily I  had a good  9 hours of charge.

A no time did I panic as  knew to get help immediately. MY blood pressure was about normal the whole time so I was pretty certain I was not having a heart attack even though all the symptoms pointed to it.

I was able to leave the hospital at 2100 having arrived at 1100. I was given a script for NITROLINGUAL spray and aspirin 100mg. I was given a letter for my GP to fill out  which would admit me to the rapid access cardio unit at the hospital.

On Monday, after my weekend with my son, [who I did not tell] I had a stress test.

The stress test is nothing to be afraid of and was a walk on the treadmill while wearing ECG leads. This ruled out angina as the cause of all the fuss which was the  ultimate conclusion from the emergency doctors.

The cardiac specialist had a wee bet that angina [narrowing of arteries to the heart] would be discovered as the cause. I won. He was happy to concede that this time the nurse was correct after telling me that nurses are the worst at diagnosis their own illness. .

I was gracious enough to not say "told ya so".

Lessons learned.

1. Carry a soluble aspirin......just in case.
2. Do not PANIC.
3. Heart pain in not necessarily  in the heart and pain can radiate to unexpected areas like your shoulder or jaw. In my case the jaw pain was worse than  the chest pain.
4. Get help immediately. It is important to get those blood tests happening

Always get to hospital before lunch. I was ravenous by dinner which was a lovely tuna salad.
Never leave home without a fully charged iPad.
Never leave home without your Kindle.

Don't whine and keep your sense of humour. The staff are doing their best.

AND THE MOST IMPORTANT THING OF ALL, REMEMBER WHAT YOUR MOTHER SAID.
ALWAYS WEAR CLEAN UNDIES

Gert still here wondering what t was all about.
