Soups / Re: Pizzoccheri Soup
« on: September 12, 2009, 09:56:24 am »
This could be called Poor Man's Soup Thermomixer - it is certainly different but we enjoyed it. I tweaked the recipe a little by not steaming the cabbage but adding it into the soup with the stock and using 100g of leftover grated tasty cheese which I threw into the soup once it was cooked. I used fettucine pasta rather than open a new packet of noodles.  You could add any left over vegies at the end of the cooking as well.  It is heading for my recipe file & that means thumbs up from this household. You could knock this one up if unexpected visitors turned up at your doorstep at mealtime.

Atta girl Daisygirl.  It was brave of you to digress from the recipe - I agree wholeheartedly.  It is pretty scary to start with but you are going well, keep it up.  Little steps will turn into big steps in no time. Lovely to hear how you are going.

What a nightmare - it is always something I dread, losing power when you have guests to dinner.  Full marks to all of you for hanging in there but as you say, it will certainly be a night to remember.  Maybe we should have a battery back up on our TMX for moments like this (only joking).

Hi and finally a bit welcome to you Jan - glad you have outed yourself ;D ;D  I'm just like Faffa 70 (only twice as old :-)) :-))) and I'm going great guns with my TMX.  If you cook something and like it Jan, let us know as we'd probably like it too.  Sharing is what we do here and without this forum my TMX would hardly have ever been used. This is certainly the place to be  ;) ;)

There is a recipe in my EDC Alycia in the drinks section - haven't tried it though but I guess others have. If you can't find it in yours, let me know and I'll post it.

Never been called that before Thermomixer, thanks for the compliment  :-* :-*  I didn't use the varoma for ages after I got my machine but just love it when you can do a meal using all the bits of the machine and it comes together at the same time.  For those who haven't used their Varoma yet, give it a go. I think the first thing I ever did in it was a meal posted by karenleigh on her blog which was 'fast leftover roast chicken and 3 veg' which worked so well I then started looking at other steaming meals. Now, I rarely use the stove top at all. I realise there wouldn't be any left-over chicken with families but for 2 people, it is a great idea.
I tried to put her blog up but obviously it has been removed.  If anyone wants the details on how to cook the above meal, I could post it. It's a quick meal indeed.

Have never tried Chai myself but my DD in Melbourne loves it.  Will have to make her a batch next time she comes over to visit.  It is always a thrill to post your first recipe - thanks Sim.

Thanks for that Sjharrop - it didn't work for me so I highlighted the word I wanted then clicked on the B for bold button.

Tonight for tea I thawed out some thin chicken breast steaks and some leftover ballotine filling, filled the basket with baby potatoes, carrots and broccoli, put some chinese cabbage on the Varoma tray whilst the chicken ballotines were steaming below in the varoma dish.  Thawed out some left over chicken gravy and there you go - another easy dinner.  The fillets worked fine Thermomixer - first time I used skinless thigh fillets as suggested in your recipe but the fillets were definitely easier to work with.
I will removed the salt content from the ballotine filling recipe when next I make it as it is a bit salty for us.

Another Tasmanian, Hi Paulinel welcome to the forum.  Glad to hear you have tried the forum recipes.  I've just tidied up and sorted recipes into a huge binder (had smaller ones going but they were full). I have categories with indexes to make it easier to find things.  There are over 70 in there, all those I have tried or posted myself from the forum. It will be my favourite 'recipe book' for sure. Then there are the recipe books themselves plus heaps of print-outs I still have to get around to trying. Bet you are looking forward to November - hope to see some of your converted recipes when you have more time to spend with your Thelma.

Good one Cookie1 - love variations on a theme.   Much cheaper too, using chicken.

DH asked if there was anymore the other day (after I had given half of it away and he had eaten the rest). Reheated the next day, it was nice and thick and he loved it. You could double the recipe I'm sure - way to go.

I was scared enough of mine and I did go to a demo ??? ??? Can understand how daunting it must be for you LynnInColorado but if you try at least one new thing per day, you will build up your confidence and trust in the machine and go on to bigger and better things. Ask here first if you are wanting to try something - you will soon get an answer if the recipe needs tweaking or not. I'd suggest tackling it on your own, with no-one around to distract you as you must read the recipe then read it again before each step - it is easy to miss something.  We have all made mistakes by not reading the recipe properly but in most instances, the machine is very forgiving.  Good luck, let us know how you go and what you have cooked.
