GNMI - My mum (and now I) have always mixed in 1/2 tin (approx 220g) of Condensed tomato soup into the white/cheese sauce before pouring it over the pasta. Great flavour boost!
Chelsea - I made this last night and we thought it was delicious. The flavour from the two cheeses was lovely. Perfect comfort food after a busy weekend.
Caroline J - I made this tonight, and it was fabulous- the kids loved it! I cooked the pasta on the stove though, while the sauce was cooking. It saved time.
Thermaddicted - Great recipe !! We loved it!
Jezza - so easy and very yummy.
dede - Had this tonight minus the chicken (as we had lamb chops). I give this recipe 5/5. Really yummy.
thermo18 - Really liked this, have done it twice, second time taken the chicken out and had it as a side dish with steak and steamed carrots and beans, only because I didn't have any chicken. I would definitely make again, doing it either way as both was lovely.
Chelsea - We really, really love this. I made it for a casserole night and it went down a treat there also.
Hally - good lunch dish for ds in his flask at school.
runnybabbit - it's delicious! Added some parsley. Yummm. Love that I can make the bechamel sauce with skinny milk just so it's not QUITE so naughty -- just the full fat cheese to worry about.
maddy - just added 200g of really smoked cooked bacon and lots of cracked pepper. I might try adding seeded mustard next time with the chicken. Thanks cookie.
Mills - Well I just made this for the 1st time, my 19 month old daughter sat there and fed herself a whole bowl and then kept scraping her empty bowl till she was given more. Thanks so much.
Foxx -I have never been a huge fan of Macaroni Cheese and was a bit skeptical on making this but it blew our socks off here. I added some pepper and sliced spring onions plus for the cheddar I used a smokey flavoured variety. Thank you for a lovely tasting recipe, it will be one added to my favourites.
JD - I had 3 chicken drumsticks leftover from last night and they yielded 200g chicken, they were pretty big ones.
This recipe serves 6 in this house and I have frozen 2 lots of 2 portions. I decided to go with the option GNMI posted as I was thawing some of my tomato soup out for tea anyway and it sounded interesting. I just replaced 220g of the milk with the tomato soup and the consistency was perfect. I think it cut the richness of me using full cream milk and full fat cheese which I don't normally buy but I picked up the wrong milk this week and the full fat cheese was so much cheaper for 1kg than low fat cheese. We both really enjoyed it.
KarenH - This recipe is so tasty - even cold and straight from the fridge. Must try the tomato soup variation sometime soon too. Thanks for a wonderful, easy recipe.
astarra - Miss 6 has been taking this in her thermos for lunches at school....and it always comes home empty! A great recipe, thanx. Also...yes it can be frozen, tho you might want to add a bit more milk before freezing as it can go gluggy.
CC - everyone loved it. A big thank you Cookie from all of us.
Greyhoundmum - The sauce is so simple and delish made in TMX. To save time I cooked my pasta on the stove top so it was all done at the same time. I also like my cheesy Mac to be browned on top so I chuck on some TMX herbed breadcrumbs extra Parmesan and sesame seeds then pop under hot grill for 2 mins.
Chris R - Yum, this is now one of our favorite meals.
Jamberie - Thank you for sharing this yummy recipe. I was having a lengthy dinner table discussion tonight with DH and didn't hear a peep from DD2 (I almost forgot she was there) as she was loving her meal so much... until she interrupted us with "more dinner"!
And the bonus.....it was so delicious none of her dinner ended up on the floor! We will certainly be having this one again.
charabelle - Kids loved this tonight, had seconds and there is still heaps left. I grilled the bacon and chicken with some onion and boiled the pasta on the stove. Added some dried breadcrumbs on top for extra crunch also. Yummo!
Wonder - I cheated and just included the cheese in with the other sauce ingredients to make a cheese sauce, I also added some cayenne and mustard for a bit more flavour, didn't have any chicken so added some onion. I also used up some spreadable mersey valley cheese that DD bought and no one liked and used some other scraps of leftover cheese. It would have been great with some parmesan and parsley crumbs on top but I couldn't be bothered washing and drying the tmx to make them.
Now that I'm writing all the changes down it probably doesn't resemble the original at all!!! It was very quick, easy and tasty and was great reheated for lunch today. I did find the sauce a little rich when I had it last night but today was fine.
Frogdancer - made this using ham, cooked the pasta on the stove and added some spring onions, parsley and mustard.
kt2 - it was really tasty and easy too.
Deniser - A nice easy one. Have ready to pop in the oven when I return from work tomorrow. Used Chorizo in place of the bacon. Used cheese and breadcrumbs on top and will place some sliced tomato over that before I pop in the oven. Think it will be lovely comfort food served with Garlic Bread.
Amy - I've just made this to put in the freezer. I didn't have any cooked chicken so I cooked some in a frying pan with the bacon and then added the peas to thaw them. I was cooking this at the same time as the sauce in the TMX and the pasta in a pot on the stove. Super quick and easy, thanks Cookie.
Kimmyh - We loved it. Great use of last nights leftover roast chicken. Thanks cookie it's a great recipe.
I have also made it using leftover Christmas turkey. Very tasty.
-
Great work - making white sauces is SOOOOOOO easy in the TMX - makes it easy to do this while battling with the kids.
-
oh YUM!
shame it's not ww core plan friendly but mayb eit can be my treat one week ;)
-
My mum (and now I) have always mixed in 1/2 tin (approx 220g) of Condensed tomato soup into the white/cheese sauce before pouring it over the pasta. Great flavour boost!

This sounds like a great one for my kids, will put it on my menue plan this week :)
-
I made this last night and we thought it was delicious. The flavour from the two cheeses was lovely. Perfect comfort food after a busy weekend.
Being the busy (hmmm lazy??) person that I am, I have been racking my brains trying to think of a way to simplify the method a little. It would be good to include the cooking of the bacon and peas in the TMX somehow and maybe even the chicken if raw. I'm wondering if this method could work:
1) grate the cheese (and set aside)
2) cook the white sauce (and place in baking dish with half of the cheese)
3) steam diced raw chicken thigh fillets and chopped bacon in varoma with water in bowl for 20 minutes at varoma temp
4) add macaroni to bowl and peas to varoma after 10 minutes
5) strain pasta, combine everything in baking dish, sprinkle with remaining cheese . . . .
I'm thinking it might work?? Can pasta be cooked at varoma temp? ???
-
You can run into trouble with pasta and Varoma temp as the starch sometimes causes it to boil over.
You don't really need to cook the bacon, but if you cut the raw chicken into thin (3-4 mm slices like stir-fry) and placed them into the Varoma and cooked for a few minutes before adding the pasta and turning it back down to 100oC, then the chicken should cook enough, especially when going to be mixed into hot pasta and placed in the oven for 15- 20 minutes.
The bacon can just go in as is and it should be fine, more like adding ham. If you want to thaw the peas out, then throw them in with the pasta for a minute just before straining. You can even put them into the colander and then pour the pasta and water over them - they will be fine.
-
Thanks Thermomixer. I was hoping there was a lazy option for me. ;D
-
They sound like great adaptions, Thanks. Anything to save time.

I made this tonight, and it was fabulous- the kids loved it! I cooked the pasta on the stove though, while the sauce was cooking. It saved time :)

Great recipe !! We loved it! #40 on my challenge list :)
-
Made this tonight, so easy and very yummy. :)
-
Great, I can make this for the kids.
Thanks, Robyn ;D

Will be making it again for sure. :)

Thanks for bumping, good lunch dish for ds in his flask at school.
:)
-
We really, really love this. I made it for a casserole night and it went down a treat there also. :)
-
Cookie1 could you make this up to putting in oven and freezing it? And just take out of freezer to go in oven? Thanks :)
-
I'm eating this RIGHT NOW and it's delicious! Added some parsley as we had half a bunch going yellow. Yummm. Love that I can make the bechamel sauce with skinny milk just so it's not QUITE so naughty -- just the full fat cheese to worry about. ;)
Thank you!
-
We love this, I quiet often make it without the chicken to have as a side dish. Yummy :D
-
i have never made or eaten macaroni cheese
-
You don't know what you are missing Uni. Mac and Cheese with bacon is a regular quick dinner for us.
-
What's not to love with pasta and oozey cheese ;D

I just added 200g of really smoked cooked bacon, and lots of cracked pepper.
I might try adding seeded mustard next time, with the chicken.
Thanks cookie :)

Well I just made this for the 1st time, my 19month old daughter sat there and fed herself a whole bowl and then kept scrapping her empty bowl till she was given more. Getting her to eat is usually a very stressfull time and most dinners end up on the floor. I have never ever seen her eat like that before and as a mum there is no greater feeling then watching your fussy toddler eat a whole meal not to mention I have seen her get so much on her spoon. Thanks so much :)
-

Ps,why is this forum so hard to post things???
In what way do you find it hard Foxx?

I like to preview my posts Judy when I add a photo just to make sure the pic works, and reread what I have written. It seems to never come up for preview and Im waiting, waiting! So in the end I copy the text, click out of the post then go back to it,paste it in and voila the preview will work so then I can submit it. Only with photo's it seems to do this but.
-
Thermo18 I don't know how this would freeze. Perhaps someone else could help you. We never have any leftovers to freeze.
-
Don't you love it when someone bumps a recipe when you are looking for something to do with leftover chicken ;D I had 3 chicken drumsticks leftover from last night and they yielded 200g chicken, yes they were pretty big ones.

I must try that variation. So many recipes. :)
-
I made this for dinner the other day, but the kids have been sick and off their food - so to my delight, there was some still leftover in the fridge when I got home from work tonight. This recipe is so tasty - even cold and straight from the fridge :D Must try the tomato soup variation sometime soon too.
Thanks for a wonderful, easy recipe.

Made this for the first time tonight for supper and I'm pleased to report back that everyone loved it.A big thank you Cookie from all of us :-*

That is so cute Jamberie, bless her.
-
Having this again tonight...but cooking the chicken seperately as I had none ready to usewhen I made the dish, have just got some tenderloins thawing now, so will fry them up and serve together... :D
-
Kids loved this tonight, had seconds and there is still heaps left. I grilled the bacon and chicken with some onion and boiled the pasta on the stove. Added some dried breadcrumbs on top for extra crunch also. Yummo!

Made this for dinner last night. I was supposd to be having spagetthi bolognese but just didn't feel like it and everyone else was out for a few hours so thought I would make this. Changes are good Wonder, they make for another recipe. Thanks.

Needed comfort food as it's still so cold here so made this tonight ;D

Looks great cc
-
I wonder how this would taste pureed :-))
-
Purée a couple of tablespoons and get back to us. Poor Geoff. Has he been having trouble swallowing his food at home?
-
Not as much trouble as he's having since the last episode Cookie.
-
Making this as we speak. I only have one son with me for dinner (the other three are at their Dad's for Easter) and the 'at home' son is off to a party. When that happens I like them to leave here with a full stomach in case they have a bit to drink. This will fit the bill!
I don't have any chicken but i do have the last off cuts from a Christmas ham I had in the fridge for the boys to eat when I was away at Thermofest in Hong Kong. So I've stripped the last of the ham, (gave the bone to the chooks) and am cooking the pasta on the stove.
I'll add some spring onions and parsley from the garden and I'll also give the mustard a go, as someone above suggested.
Thanks!
-
I hope it went well. You should have used your bone for pea and ham soup, it makes lovely ones.
-
Thank you for sharing this recipe cookie! ;D
I made it a couple of nights ago and it was really tasty and easy too. ;D
-
Hi Katie. Glad you liked it.
-
Yum, Kids will love this :)
-
A nice easy one. Have ready to pop in the oven when I return from work tomorrow. Used Chorizo in place of the bacon (DH favourite food at the moment - chorizo that is). Used cheese and breadcrumbs on top and will place some sliced tomato over that before I pop in the oven. Think it will be lovely comfort food served with Garlic Bread.
-
I've just made this to put in the freezer.
I didn't have any cooked chicken, so I cooked some in a frying pan with the bacon and then added the peas to thaw them. I was cooking this at the same time as the sauce in the TMX and the pasta in a pot on the stove. Super quick and easy, thanks Cookie :)
-
;) :)
-
Here's a photo before it went in the freezer... it doesn't look as delicious and melty as some of the past photos, but it will eventually ;D
-
Just bumping this up so I remember to try it.
-
Was looking for something to use up leftover cooked chook. Yay!
-
Yum! We often make tomato macaroni cheese with bacon from the nursing mothers cookbook. But this will be a nice change!
-
My first time making this for dinner tonight. We loved it. Great use of last nights leftover roast chicken. Thanks cookie it's a great recipe.
-
Made this last night using leftover Christmas turkey. Very tasty.
-
Great variation and another way to use up the leftovers.
-
This will be on the menu soon :)
-
Was given an almost whole cooked chicken today so made this recipe again in individual ramekins for 8 servings. Couldn't be bothered thawing out some bacon so added more chicken to compensate plus I added a whole can of tomato soup I wanted to get rid of from the pantry and reduced the milk to 530 g.
-
I hoped you enjoyed it Judy.
-
Just had another bowl for lunch cookie ;D
-
Cookie made this according to recipe. Lovely, real comfort food. Does make a lot though. Will have to freeze some.
-
I'm pleased that you liked it.
-
This sounds delicious and will be great for the kids lunch today as I have half a barbecued chicken in the fridge to use up.
Thanks cookie :)
-
Recipe looks good, Cookie :)
Will try it with fresh pasta from the philips magic machine ;D
-
It will taste even better with fresh pasta BZB. ;D ;D ;D
-
Excellent recipe, Cookie 😄
Got to play with both the pasta maker and TMX today. Gadget time 😆😍 But there was hell to pay when washing up. Might not use the penne disc again. So time consuming to clean up 😅

Looks lovely Bee. Just pull away excess dough from the die and the inner plastic bit and then put both pieces aside to let the dough dry that's stuck in there. You'll find that it will just pop out if you use the little gadget (long thin thing on the end of the slicer paddle thing) to push/dig it out. I like doing that part. :-)) The other dies have the plastic covers that pushes out the dry bits. :D
-
That looks amazing BZB. :D
-
The pasta seems to dry and almost fall out. I seem to use the penne die the most.
-
Thanks Astarra 😄
I was going to retire my penne die. Seemed too hard. Was thinking of using the spaghetti die and cut the pasta very short for pasta bakes etc.
-

Julie, the 2 parts of the penne die wouldn't budge when I finished using it. Had to sit down to poke bits and pieces out with the pointy ends of the flat scraper.
Lucky I double checked the manual before freezing the penne die 😆😄😂
-
Oh, I haven't had that problem (yet) Bee. I pull them apart as soon as I've finished extruding then pull off the excess dough and put both pieces aside to dry while we have dinner and then clean up. When I come back to them I find they have dried enough to quickly poke out the remaining dough. ;D
-
I froze the 1/2 that was left over and then thawed in Fridge, reheated in microwave and browned top in AF. This is one of our favourite pasta dishes. Thanks Cookie. ;D
-
I'm so pleased that you like it.
-
Kids loved it and cleaned their plate. I added some garlic salt and pepper and froze the leftovers for quick dinner when I am running late. Wasn't enough spice for hubby and myself though. Will definitely be on the kids menu
-
Great news ozzie_mum. You could probably double the recipe.
-
Cookie, this has been so handy this busy week that I am going to make a lot and freeze it in serving sizes. Thanks again.
-
I'm so glad it has been useful.
-
Cookie I made this for DH today and he really enjoyed it. So simple to make. :D
I grated both cheeses at the same time for the 10 secs/speed 8 and they turned out good and well mixed. I also just added the frozen peas without thawing. I think adding the hot sauce to them and the baking time cooked them enough to be tender.
I made one lot of penne in my machine and cut them off in about 2-3cm lengths which worked out good. Thanks for posting a nice little recipe. :D

Your meals always look better Julie. I do the same with the peas. Sounds like yet another reason why I need the pasta maker.
-
Thanks JulieO. I'm glad you liked it.
-
Thanks Kimmy :D
After the 'using it all the time' phase wore off, when I now need pasta, I don't hesitate to make my own. Sometimes when you get things, after that initial stage you tend to go back to what you used to do before, (well I can be guilty of that), but I'm not doing that with the pasta maker. I think because it's so easy and quick to use it's not really too much more effort than opening up a packet of dried stuff. It's better now that I'm not standing there watching it do its stuff, I get on with other things until I hear the change of sound and then cut it as it comes out. ;D
-
I made this today to have in the freezer for when the GC come to stay. I had to sample it of course and it is so yummy :P
