Recipe Review -Tomato Soup (EDC)
« on: October 05, 2009, 05:57:10 am »
Recipe Name: Tomato Soup
Book Name: EDC
Tweaking details: Needs more punch.  Next time I will add garlic, more peppercorns, and maybe some cream.
Review: Easy to make, but needs tweaking.
Score: (out of 5*) 3

I have to agree with you.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.

I absolutely agree Caroline, didn't have a whole lot of flavour. Garlic, more peppercorns, possibly some paprika or cumin.
I also wasn't a huge fan of the texture with the group lentils, next time I'd cook them along with everything else and blend it at the end, think that would make it a bit smoother...

I made this last night because I have some very ripe tomatoes to use, and some kilos around the midsection to lose  ;D.

Made a couple of changes. Didn't bother with the first step, just threw everything in except the pepper, parsley and tomato paste and cooked it. With about 5 minutes to go I put in some of Chelseas condensed tomato soup that I had in the fridge (generous half cup I think), snipped parsley and a generous grinding of pepper mix. Used red lentils instead of tapioca, no tomato paste and only a teaspoon of stock concentrate. Should also mention that I used organic tomatoes which are full of flavour (like homegrown).

Very pleased with the result. It was quick and easy, and really good.

Will be making this again but not until I make more of Chelsea's condensed tomato soup to go with.

It sounds as though those homegrown tomatoes did the trick Djinni
