Chit Chat / Re: Anything goes for Uni
« on: August 13, 2022, 10:52:45 pm »
Morning all.
The Forum Fests were such good fun. Such nice people with no politics. Just united through one small machine and into sharing. What could be better. We are still sharing!
Good news on our home selling/ buying. We havenít sold yet but we have bought a new home. It is 2 stories but we are able to put a lift in. It is brand new and part of a new estate in Ballarat, Insignia. Part of Alfredton. The house is opposite a wetland and park with plenty to see.

4 months ago, almost to the day, RAL was operated on and not expected to survive. Life has changed drastically for us and downsizing is difficult as well as all the Cancer treatment and tests. However we move on and RAL is responding well to the Chemo but it is not nice what it does to the mind and body.
We cannot thank our Forum friends enough for their support. If any need a holiday in Ballarat, we will have one spare bedroom and lots of good Thermo food. And a very quiet life style. Probably from next year. We can take possession in mid November but will need to set things up. Council regulations say no Pigs or chickens. Ral said he will miss the Pigs ??? and I will certainly miss the chooks.

So nice to see what all my Forum friends are up to.
Last night we took DD to look at a house we would love to buy. The owners are about to go into a big advertising campaign, and although we didnít want to buy before we sell we made an offer. Fingers crossed to it is accepted.

Many thanks for the lovely comments about our pie tasting.
Donít know why the chooks are still laying. Most unusual for this time of the year. We will not be able to take the chooks with us when we downsize. It will be the first time in 50 years that we wonít have chooks. One of the offers for our house, ( which we refused) included the chooks.
Judy, thanks for passing on the comments about the pie tasting. Very comforting  to have that support.

Sounds nice Judy. Could you sub chicken for the salmon?

Thanks Marina.
Ral had a pretty tough week last week so I looked for ways to distract him. We decided to do a meat pie taste test around Ballarat. I shouldnít be eating pies but what the hell. We buy pies and coffee and eat them by the lake . We have so far taste tested 5 different ones and the Golden Nugget ones are the best. Generous tasty filling, crust not too bad.
We have now had 2 offers for our house, but neither acceptable. There has been a lot of interest and the Agent is pleased. Much easier to have open house when not living there.
We have also found a house that we would like to downsize to. But donít want to buy before we sell.
It has been bitterly cold. Lots of rain and cold winds. Frost again this morning. Egg shortage in Ballarat, but our chooks are laying like mad so Iím giving eggs away at a great rate.
Hope for a better week this week and not too many pies. We have veggie soup for dinner to try and balance out the unhealthy lunch.

Thanks for the lovely photos and cooking ideas. Iím feeling in cooking limbo. Odd job fellas came yesterday and have good appetites so love to cook for them. Made My Favourite Quiche, which they loved. Ral joined us for lunch and enjoyed their company.
If I want to bake, I return home, ( 5 minutes away).

Oh hell Marina, you did well but what a pain having to deal with all of that.
We have had an offer for the house, ( it has been on the market for less than 1 week)  agent is negotiating for us. We will know today. Buyers wanted 6 month settlement. After discussion with DD we said ok.
KAtie,  your tough muffin was probably due to over mixing.
I did battle again with DD dreadful oven. Also her TMX 31 has given up on kneading. I mixed bread dough on reverse for 1 minute. Oven took 1 hour on 250 to reach 400. So altogether not too bad a result.

Iíve been making a bit of bread and some biscuits. Iíve been substituting 1/4 of oil for butter in some biscuit recipes. Avacado and walnut work particually well. I started doing this to use up the various oil I had. I add hemp powder and black sesame seeds to my Tahini biscuit recipe. Very nice. Also added Walnut oil to my Crisp Oatmeal recipe. Took longer to bake but crisp and tasty.

What great cooking, thanks for sharing. I miss baking very much. Instead of doing  jobs to ready house for sale, I cooked a batch of Tahini biscuits. Commercial biscuits are awful. I have made quite a lot of SD crumpets. DD has a pie machine and I cook them in this. Iím quite certain that when we buy a new home Iím going to have to put a good oven in. probably Meile.

Yesterday we had our first Open Day for the sale of our house. The house was ĎOpení for 1/2 an hour. We arrived 2 hours prior and put lights and heaters on. 12 families turned up. This was very good. One family from Melbourne. Jellis  Craig is the Agent, All advertising is on the Internet,  there have been a lot of likes on Face Book.  We have no idea how this will all go but are so great full that we are staying with DD. We were both exhausted. Back at DD home, I made chicken soup and Ral slept for 3 hours. Again, we have had so much help it is truely amazing. Our Melbourne family have all caught COVID so have been unable to visit.
Cookie, finalising an estate is emotional and exhausting. Glad to see you are nearly there.

Amber, thanks for your generous good wishes when you also are having your own battle. Keep strong.
Ral is continuing to improve gradually. He is frustrated that he canít do more. The surgeon continues to remind him that it is amazing that he survived the operation and is responding well to the Chemo. We canít risk going out with COVID and the flu every where. We celebrated French National day with a coffee and French  pastry, in the car.
The house is finally ready to go on the market. Photos were taken last week. We have had an amazing amount of help. Interesting that the photographer removed  the TMX from the prominent place where I  had placed it.
I made a Chocolate cake from the Forum to place on the bench. Last night I also made Pizza base in DD 31. Iíll try and post a photo of kitchen WITH TMX.
Thanks again to everyone for thinking of us.

Not sure if this info is of use. DD has a crown making machine. Whizz bang latest technology machine, in house. It is quicker, cheaper and better than sending crowns out to be made. There is a gap of 1 hour between the measuring and final fitting of the crown.

Thanks again for all the good thoughts and wishes.
Finally some good news. 10 weeks ago we were looking at palliative care.  This past week we have had our first visitor, ( other than family). Ral walked without his 4 wheeler, around the Supermarket. He has been using a walking stick for short distances. He is standing up straighter. Has lost over 20 Ks. Not a bad thing . We drove to Creswick and had coffee. ( only 11 ks , but was out ) did some mowing on the ride on mower. ( I looked the other way) Doctor very cautious as even if Cancer reduced with this cycle of Chemo, it can return and he canít have any more Chemo. However we will enjoy whatever we can. And yes, the Chemo is as bad as everyone says. 4 th of 8 doses next week.
