Obbie sounds like a great result for your family and like the school is treating it seriously.

Gert, those termites are terrible, the hallway looks lovely now though.

Thanks for all the exam well wishes, I've passed them on and she seemed quite pleased people are interested. She has been given a personal introduction and phone number of the owner of a leading Australian Advertising agency owner whom she needs to make contact with today, so crossing our fingers for good exam results and a positive interaction with this guy who might be able to assist either with some work experience or even just some mentoring / advice. He happened to be on The Gruen Planet last night so after watching him she is very nervous about the call. Not sure which is harder for her making a single phone caller sitting her exams!

Wonder, this kid has attacked 3-4 kids at school,  2 parents now have reported it, so hopefully he is moved to another school.

This is what putting down a termite barrier looks like.

Such a lot of work Gert. Did your property already have one and it's being replaced or is this the first time?

Robyn, that's terrible and such a shame for the actual child as well as I'm sure the behaviour will continue at the new school.

Gert, what a mess those little devils made.  They can also be a problem here is Sth Australia.  Thank God so far we have been saved this mess.  Your workman did a great job.

Expensive little blighters to get rid of. Hate termites with a vengeance.

When we were transferred to Broome in the early 70‘s the house we were allocated had been condemned and brought back to life. It was up off the ground about 18 inches. (45 cm) the stumps it was on were made of wood. We tried to plant termites on that wood so they would run up into the house. We must have placed infested pieces of wood on those stumps about 50 times but not once did they go onto it, the little horrors. The house was built in the early 1900’s so the wood was probably so hard they couldn't eat it.

And then all the trenches have to be back filled and each and every hole plugged with a stopper and filled with goop of a matching colour.

Amazing tedious and time consuming not to mention expensive!

That would be right cookie. Very hard wood. These critters are very lazy.

Plugging every hole.

What a job Gert. Great to here good tradie stories for a change.
I worked for a steel frame builder before babies came along. Of course, termite treatment not needed with steel frame homes, but try telling that to the building inspectors out in the country. Every permit application they would ask what termite protection we were using. One even insisted we treat a cavity sliding door pocket (the only hardwood in the house) because a hungry termite would travel all the way into the middle of the house, just to eat one door pocket!

Gert,
That reminds me we have to have our termite barrier inspection done ! Did they write into your warranty that you have to have inspections done every year or your void your warranty? We are a bit slack there but the guy that does it also does our normal pest sprays and we only find we need to get it done about every 18 months. So we get the barrier checked then.

We are looking at replacing our paved drive way with some form of decorative concrete and we're going to have to have that section of barrier replaced as well I think. It will be interesting what they charge for that !!
