Tonight I am going to Books for Cooks who are doing a presentation on "Ferment for good: ancient foods for the modern gut" by Sharon Flynn.  It covers all sorts of fermented foods - Kimchi, Sauerkraut, kombucha, etc.  Should be really interesting.
that will be interesting.  Marina, have they shifted shop again?

Cookie, love the old cars.

Yes, they have moved again, temporarily, to the Victoria Street side of Victoria Market and I think the plan is to move back to the old shop once the building works have been completed - probably a couple of years.

That sounds interesting Marina. I'm afraid I can't develop a taste for Kombucha.

I think a lot depends on how it is made, Cookie.  I started using black tea when I first started making it and also flavoured it (raspberry was my favourite), but now I make it with green tea and it is a lot 'softer' in taste and very easy to drink - I make 4 ltrs a week and sometimes that isn't enough!  I haven't flavoured it since changing to green tea. I have never tried the commercially available stuff so cannot compare them.

I haven’t  had a lot of luck making  Kombucha.  Don’t think I have the right environment.

It was an interesting evening.  The presenter, whose business is based in Daylesford, was most enthusiastic about water and / or milk kefir.  Touched on kombucha a little and we had a sample tasting of her kimchi.  I would have got a lot more out of the evening had I ever made or, indeed, tasted kefir previously, but I got a copy of her book so will do some reading.  We also got a sample bottle of her kefir to take home so I'll share that with DH today and see what it is like.  She didn't touch on SD bread as she said there are so many others doing that she leaves that to them.

Marina, that sounds like a very interesting evening.
I find the Kefir very easy to make as you just leave it at room temperature. I have a Mad Milly kit which makes the process very easy. One of the most popular posts on my Blog is my Kefir Lemon Ice Cream.  If you are milk intolerant, it could be make with the water Kefir and then would be more icey.
Too cold and wet here today so some cooking for the weekend as it is Fathers Day.

The lady running the course mentioned that lactose intolerant people can eat / drink / consume milk kefir - I cannot remember the exact words she used, but it was along the linkes of it neutralising the lactose.  DH hasn't 'consented' to being my guinea pig yet, perhaps that will come with time (I can't rush him, he is only just starting to like kombucha, after me making it for the last 8 months)!

We went to the hearing people today to choose a hearing aid for DH.  He should have it by next Friday.  Now I will have to be careful what I mutter about. ;D
