Your cake looks good, Chookie.

I made a fruit cake at the weekend ... and picked out all the maraschino cherries as I hate them!  The stupid thing was that I didn't even have any myself, I had always intended to make it to give it away to various traders on our street who look after our needs during the year and I am sure they probably liked cherries.

Marina, I add extra cherries.  Mostly for the look. What recipe did you use?

That cake looks beyond delicious Chookie and the jam just perfect Mab. I don't use the glace cherries in my cooking as DD refuses to eat it. I love them. I use cranberries or sour cherries instead.

Mab, lovely looking jam.  Fresh or dried Apricots?
Cookie, love the dried cherries but they are so expensive. I put them in everything.  ;D ;D ;D

It's this one, Chookie, nice and easy - I added more cranberries as I love them and the red colour makes up for the lack of the cherries. it's from KimmyH  http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=16491.0

I've found that I can get dry sour cherries from Costco. They aren't as expensive as the others I see in specialty shops. I also prefer their cranberries too as they are more puffed up than the ones from the shops. It's the same brand.

It looks lovely Chookie. I'm wondering how the bread would go with a bit of fruit mince in each section? I havent made the fruit mince yet though.
I've spent the last couple of hours trying to make these. https://thewoksoflife.com/chocolate-nutella-rolls/
I hope they taste good. It wasn't a troublesome recipe, just took a while. I ran out of Nutella o the last two have peanut butter in them.

These are delicious. I succumbed and had one.

Cookie, I cut the sugar to 1/4 so I think the full amount would be ok for fruit pull a part. The dough is good to work with. I found it easier to cut the squares first and then sprinkle the cheese, bacon and onion on. I gave one away and froze the other 2.
Love the the look of the cutting and folding of the ones you are making.

Bits & Pieces today  ;D

My grandson is coming down tomorrow for the weekend so this morning I made Tenina's vanilla ice cream so I could chill the custard for a few hours until cold then churned it.  It's now in the freezer.

I then made Tenina's Ice Magic and checked that it worked on a scoop of the soft serve ice cream.  It worked  ;D

I also made up some brown sugar as I had less than a cup left of my last batch.  I made 2kg in Nov 2019 in my KA mixer but today I tried doing it in the TM using the cookidoo method.  You only make 250g at a time which takes less than a minute so you can then do as many lots as you wish (only doing 1 portion at a time though to get the molasses right through the sugar).  I made 4 or 5 lots not sure now but I will do it this way from now on, so easy.  It's also cheaper than buying ready made.

I love making stuff like this especially when it works and I find it costs less.  I make my own baking powder now too and keep it in the little container that you buy the store bought stuff in.   :D

I've never thought of making my own brown sugar. I will definitely try it now. Thanks JulieO

I made some Macadamia Christmas biscuits today.

I also made a cheats recipe of Salted Caramel Tartlets. Butter Snap cookies, squeeze Dulce de Leche and melted chocolate. DD will be taking them to work.
