Onion peeling tip
« on: December 29, 2008, 06:44:34 pm »
Hurray for hubbie!  :D  He decided to take the garlic peeling tip to the next level and see if it worked with onions.  He put the onion in (root and shoot ends cut off) on reverse, speed 3, 20 seconds - and it peeled it!  Just like with the garlic.  Brilliant.
As my picture shows, I've suddenly become younger :-)  DD was of the opinion that her picture should be here, not mine!

Thank you, thank you, thank you.  Husbands seem to have an affiliation with thermomixes.  Perhaps it is the ease of use or something.  My husband is constantly 'trying' new ideas and he is the very best salesman for it.
I can't wait to test out the onion peeling.  No more crying eyes.

Yeah!!!!!! I did notice it but didn't want to be a 'boaster'.  It isn't hard to post on this site as I'm finding it very interesting and helpful. As you know I was hanging out for my thermomix to arrive and it hasn't disappointed me in any way.  I just need to use the Varoma more-probably not for a few days as we had 39 degrees yesterday, 37 today and 39 forecast for tomorrow.

Does anyone have an easy way of cleaning the machine at the top?  It's at the peak of the triangle on the machine, little grooves where the bowl lid slides around. I seem to end up with all sorts of interesting 'stuff' in there and because it's grooved it is a little difficult to clean. Thanks in anticipation. :P

Thanks for the onion peeling tip, Caroline.
I hate peeling onions - even spring onions make me cry - so this will be a life-saver and also help save on the frozen chopped onions that I am so fond of buying!

I think its the Techno-Gadget appeal factor. My DH just keeps talking about how he thinks the engineering of the machine is so great (as he makes his latest milkshake).

I usually just get my dishcloth (whatever you use to wipe down benches etc) or damp paper towel and fold it to fit and insert it into the slot and pull it back and forth. Nothing fancy, but works perfectly

Thanks fellow thermomixers.  That's what I usually do but I thought someone  may have had a new super idea.
