Happy today because I got the all clear after a mammogram call back (just benign calcification) 5 days of over-thinking takes its toll. Sad for the other 2 ladies who did not have the same result  :'(  such a life changing day for them.

Don't feel so sad for those ladies because now they know and can get treatment and hopefully will be ok. Happy for you SM. Great news after a stressful wait.

Cancer is a bast**d but it is often curable when detected early.

Get your mammograms ladies. Make it a priority. Cost you nothing and takes 15 minutes at most. No excuses.

As well as all that fun make sure you and your loved ones get your skin checked at least annually. Your GP will do it when you visit for something else. If he has concerns he will send you to a specialist. I've had 2 melanomas removed and they are sneaky little b's plus heaps and heaps of others. Anything you don't like the look of, get checked-when you have the pap smear if you like. Make it a fun day. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Great news for you Chris, the wait would have been unbearable.

Mum is 91 and has never had a mammogram but judging by the way she reacted yesterday when the doctor took her blood pressure, I don't think she would have survived the test anyway   :-)) ;D

My MIL never had one either Judy but had to have a breast removed at age 86. she lived to 104.

I had my last Pap smear just after I turned 70 last year. No more for me. I still have yearly mammograms often accompanied by an ultra sound just in case. They really look after me at the clinic.

I hadmy ffirst mammogram at 50 last year. I've always read that it can be quite painful because the machine squeezes the breasts. It was fine so I don't know why the fuss.

CP they have new machines now that don't hurt like the 'old' ones did and they don't seem to take as many photos as they once did either.  I've been going since I turned 40 and these new machines are a piece of cake.  :)

My sister was diagnosed with breast cancer last year at the age of just 42. As a result I had a mammogram and ultrasound done as a precautionary measure (I'm 37). It was explained to her that the fact she was so young was, believe it or not, a negative thing. When you are younger your body works faster which means that the cancer has an opportunity to spread faster. A mammogram really isn't painful at all and the lady that did it gave me full control of the procedure. She asked me to tell her at any stage if it hurt and she would stop pushing the plates together. It really isn't anything to worry about and I wonder why women put it off. I'd happily go for a mammogram and wouldn't dread it like a PAP smear.
