Hi everyone! Alyce Alexandra here. Bit of an update -

I am sorry to report that after hours upon hours of editing and proof reading somehow a gluten free symbol has made it's way onto the blueberry bagels recipe. Will be sure to amend this for the next print run!

The plum pudding recipe is also marked as gluten free - there is a gluten free option at the bottom of the page, but the recipe exactly as it stands is not gluten free.

Happy Cooking!

Alyce xo

I have given this book as a gift three times now all three of the loved ones I shared it with have been over the moon.  It's the sort of layout you can't stop looking at - beautiful size and weight.

Well that teaches me to be away from the forum for so long. I have been busy reading through posts that I have missed out on. It's going to take me forever to catch up

Mine was delivered about 5 minutes ago, apparently the courier tried to deliver on the 17th already but I wasn't home.  So maybe yours is the same Hally, Alyce has tracking numbers so it will be easy to find where it is.

What a fabulous book, only quickly leafed through the pages but there were many jumping out at me  :)

Mine came this afternoon.

Its outside in the garden, it smells bad, diesel, chemicals not sure what. Cant even open it to browse atm.

The bag smelt, but i thought the book woud be ok. Goodness knows where it was stored.

So its outside freshening up, hope its going to be ok.

Hally, maybe you could try wrapping it in a plastic bag with something nice smelling?  Like a perfume tester strip that you like......or some vanilla on paper towel....

Hope the fresh air sorts it out!  Sounds like that courier had something noxious happen in the back of his van!

I ordered my copy on Wednesday and it was delivered today which was nice and quick, but mine smells too of chemicals.  I think it may be printing ink or the binding glue.  The smell is fading as I use it thankgoodness. I may try the suggestion of putting it in a bag with some perfume or chocolate.  Despite the smell it is a beautifully presented  book and it has tempted me to make two things from it already - the salmon patties and the sweet potato and chickpea soup - both of which we enjoyed. The recipes were quick and easy.

Hally that is terrible, I sell my knitting online and always worry about this sort of thing, everything leaves here in perfect condition but it is out of my control after that.

Thanks so much for sending the courier an email Hally - it is so disappointing to hear that the book has arrived in a state that you can't even look through it!

As knittercook says it is so frustrating when things are out of your control and do not arrive in the state you sent them. I will be following this up with the courier company.

If anyone else has had a similar experience please let me know. alyce@alycealexandracookbooks.com

Post by: goldfish on January 20, 2012, 08:44:32 pm
Well worth waiting for though Woerd!  It is a gorgeous book (IMHO)  Don't be disheartened by the courier stories here.  Most couriered articles arrive very quickly . . . . some fall between the cracks as it were.  My QFITT arrived the day after I received the email!

I ordered a Christmas gift for my son - online and well before Christmas - so it would arrive on time.  It arrived New Years Eve - and then only because I complained to the seller after receiving nonsense emails from the courier.. :-\  When I checked the courier's website after the fact
they were patting themselves on the back for what a wonderful job they'd done over the Christmas period :o  It was interesting to note that that particular courier co.  featured prominently in a list published online after the New Year of companies whose service (of lack thereof) received the most complaints. :-))

I do feel for Hally . . .that would have been just so disappointing -( not to mention infuriating!!).  It's probably a warning to us all that when we ship ANYTHING - especially via courier - we try to pack it so it doesn't run the risk of being contaminated.    Hats off to Alyce for her customer service!!  It makes such an enormous difference!! :D :D

I left the book outside all night. It still smells but now I am able to browse through it. Its in the car so hopefullynsome sea breezes will freshen it up more.

Was very disappointing but now I can read it ;D ;D

Just had a quick look, it looks fantastic, cant wait to try somethings tonight, probably a side or salad.

Yes Alyce has been great, excellent customer service.

If your reading this Alyce, hoping in time the smell will go.

H :)

Just had a look through, i want to make everything now.

So happy have a lot of ingredients with me to make lots of things, i have so much stuff in the car, i even have kafir kime leaves. Its going to be a tasty holiday. My friends will want to eat what were eating, some things we can share, but not all.

  :D ;D

It's not under soups CP so it must be either a side dish or a complete meal for vegetarians.  Served in a bowl though so perhaps it is too runny for a plate.

Hi Cream Puff! As Judy said, it is really a complete meal for vegetarians, but could be adapted to a side dish. Isn't quite a soup but certainly needs to be served in a bowl. Very healthy, lots of beans and veges!!

Great stuff. Been looking today for toasted sesame oil, and can't find it. Here is a recipe from the web which I will try:

Toasted Sesame Oil

o   Prepare your pan. Make sure the pan is thoroughly clean and dry. Heat the pan on the stove.

o   Toast a small quantity of cold-pressed sesame oil in pan. Pour the oil in after heating the pan. Tilt the pan from side to side to keep the oil in movement so it toasts but does not burn. Continue until the oil turns from acquires a golden to brown color. Keep heat low to avoid smoke. Transfer the toasted oil into a container with a tight lid.

o   Use the toasted sesame oil within one year. Storing it in the refrigerator will prevent oxidation. Toasted sesame oil is not for cooking foods. Instead, add it dishes after you remove them from the stove to enjoy the rich taste.

Title: Re: Quick Fix in the Thermomix - links to reviews

The lady in the Asian shop told me a different method:

heat up wok, add sesame seeds and toast on low heat, put in food processor (TM  :-))) add abit of oil and blitz until a paste forms, add some more oil and put aside in a glass jar for at least a day or so until it separates. If a recipe calls for paste, you can use the stuff on the bottom and oil you would just pour from the top. Said it would last about 6 months. When I drove away I wondered what sort of oil she was talking about (will go back and ask another day).

Oh dear! I have been holding off purchasing this as I have so many other recipes I want to try. Kept telling myself that I don't need another cook book (especially since I bought dinner spinner recently) but the reviews have been so good that I finally succumbed and ordered one. Now I can't wait! Contrary aren't I?
Title: Re: Quick Fix in the Thermomix - links to reviews

Moo2, there's nothing wrong with holding back on buying recipe books - it is better to know you are buying a book that has been well received than to have ordered it too early and found it totally unsuitable for your needs.  The reviews have certainly helped make up the minds of quite a few people on this forum.
Title: Re: Quick Fix in the Thermomix - links to reviews

The reviews are extremely helpful Judy. I wouldn't have attempted half the things I have without them so I guess I can say that if they cause me to buy things I wouldn't normally, then it's a small price to pay. (Plus I get the fun of the purchases)!

Hi Aimee! Thanks for the question - there are over 100 recipes in the cookbook and 75 of them are vegetarian, with a further 2 having vegetarian options. I am not sure if you eat seafood or not but on top of those 75 recipes there are a further 8 seafood dishes.

In regard to main meals, there are 13 that have meat or chicken in them.

Hope that makes sense! Any further questions please do not hesitate to ask on the forum or email me at alyce@alycealexandracookbooks.com

Cheers,
Alyce

What a beautiful book!  I got my copy today, so can't comment yet on the recipes; just the service, book & recipe writing. I ordered my book online & received a gorgeous wrapped parcel, with bonus tea samples  :) One of my fave things about the book is the size - very practical & easy to hold.  I loved the photography & also the old fashioned book binding! Between reading novels on kindle & e cookbooks, a proper book with lovely pics is really appreciated.  I also like the balance between everyday recipes & special (although not difficult) recipes. I really loved the 'basics' section - very well written & great common sense advice.  I can't wait to get stuck into the recipes :)

Just discovered this book on the iBook store for €16 (Germany), dont know what other markets its available in. Have to decide what to cook first :)

Book looks nice though, it's done as a proper iBook as opposed to a ePub book (so its kind of half way between a PDF and a normal ebook) and has lots of great photos. I wish Tenina's ebook s came this way.
