Great tips Chookie.  :D

DH is off to NZ on Friday for 10 days to visit family and friends and we are eating meals from the freezer until then. While he is away I hope to empty the freezer again and defrost. I haven't got that much stuff actually so should be pretty easy. I hope to make some meals up ready for the newly defrosted freezer as DH is bringing his cousin and best mate back with him and I will need some meals for them. I'm hoping to be well under $100 for 2 weeks.

Yesterday we were in Melb and I was able to visit the Asian grocer in Newmarket. For just over $10 I bought a very large Iceburg lettuce, 5 Ks of chicken carcasses, 1 k chicken wings and a large packet of dim sim wrappers.
There is quite a lot of flesh on the carcasses so will remove some to fill the wrappers with and boil the rest for stock. The flat part of the wings I will use in Paella and the knobby bits in AF with Sweet Chilli sauce.
I could use some of the carcasses to make Trninas chicken stock but still have some in the Freezer. Mostly I find it better to make liquid stock where I can remove the the fat.
Must get busy and checkout recipes for different fillings for the wrappers.  thermi, here I come!

DS bought plenty of meat and beautiful dressings/mayonnaise with for me today from the butchers he works for. The meat will come in handy for DH and our NZ guest when they arrive. Can't wait to try the condiments. 3 of them are beerenberg but I've never spotted them before.  Also looking forward to the coconut chilli mayo.

Beerenberg is a wonderful SA brand and everything they make is lovely. You wouldn't go wrong stocking their products, but maybe you could find a local QLD brand to save on freight costs (and food miles).

Didn't realise Beerenberg was A South Aussie brand. Good to be getting Australian products. I've only seen their jam in the super markets. Look forward to trying these other condiments.

We went there during the Adelaide forumfest Michele.  My favourite product is their beetroot & balsamic relish.

That's where you can pick your own strawberries am I right?  Have passed it whenever we go into the hills but have never stopped as we've always been on our way somewhere and didn't have the time.  Maybe one day.  :D

When we are up at Hahndorf we always stop at Beerenberg and also at Otto's Bakery up there. We come home laden with stuff from Beerenberg. You can buy it here but not everything. Judy introduced me to the Beetroot and Balsamic Relish. It's lovely.

Yes Julie but it's never been strawberry season when I've been up there so I always miss out.  Picking time is November to April.

I always come home from SA well laden. We stock up at Beerenberg, at Maggie Beers at Nuriootpa and dried fruits as well. Then of course Haigh's.
I love it when you visit these places and there has been a mismatch or something in the processing and their products are almost given to you. We picked up some lovely jam at Maggie Beer's that was supposed to have cinnamon in. They forgot to out it in. We bought several jars of Jam for $2 as it had been labelled and everything before they found it had no cinnamon. We were thrilled.
We have done the same at Beerenberg a couple of times too.
