Do You set yourself Goals
« on: October 22, 2012, 04:10:18 am »
Does anyone set them selves goals , and then work out how to achieve them within a set time frame.

example, savings  or  weight loss ect.
Any tips or tricks.

Thanks

I'm hopeless at goal setting and even worse at achieving them. It will be interesting to hear what others do.

I'm always writing down what I want to achieve, sometimes it's only extra daily chores , sometimes bugger things, I have pieces of paper every where, it's nice to come across one and cross off a few things ;D ;D

Not generally as we take one day at a time here.  I am a list person too AB but it's usually shopping lists or food items I need to make.

I think life is all about goals. I have goals that I want to achieve each day, like doing my exercise, cooking a nice dinner, etc. Then I have goals that I want to achieve within a year or two, such as completing a course. And then come the big long term goals, like saving up to put a deposit on a house, planning the career I might like to get into, etc.

Has everyone heard of SMART goals?

S - Specific
M - Measurable
A - Achievable
R - Realistic
T - Timeframe

I can't see the point of setting myself a target to fail to achieve.  :o

I basically have a life goal and then daily ones which are like ' get the ironing done'. My life goal is to make the best of it.

All my daily goals are listed every day, then whet else I want to achieve that week gets put in on a particular day...(like sewing or whatever) and it gets done...I love the satisfaction of crossing things off as they are done!!  :)

Bigger goals or longer term plans are written in a different place with date started, how we want to achieve them and by when with it...and 9 times out of 10 they work...I work best knowing what needs to be done and what we want to be done....I make lists for everything!! :-))

Same theory as Den  :P
I Have never been a planner, organised, or set goals....I've always lived in the moment, spontaneity & whims......not saying that's a particularly good thing, but works for me  ;)

Michelle, sort of    planning where i want to be, what I want to achieve  in 12 months time.

Loose weight, lifestyle, that sort of thing.  was thinking of what I want to achieve, and working backwards towards that goal..

Hi Amy
I like you are driven by goals. I like to set myself goals some short term some longer, I am able to achieve more that way as I have a clearly defined path worked out in order to get to those goals.  Of course it doesn't always work out that way and that is always part of the challenge.  I am a Virgo star sign and often people criticize that we do have a tendency to over analyze things but I don't think there is anything wrong with being driven and committed.  Due to goal setting I was able to completely change my career after 20 years in one career and then moving to another.

Amy, you go girl I think it is fantastic that you are able to set SMART goals.   I'm off to tick off another for today, to attend Pilates!!!
