My very first question would be. Where has it been used in it's history. You do not want to be buying from a restaurant/cafe owner. It would not have received the care that a householder would give it. Also ask that a demonstration is included in the sale.

Cauliflower Cheese Page 186 UK TM5 Basic Cookbook
I halved the quantities of this recipe. It was plenty for 2 generous servings. I wondered if it would make any difference to the chip timings but I did not change them and followed the chip and everything came out fine. The sauce was just right and the cauliflower spot on! The next time I make this, I will have to remember to make a soup whilst the cauliflower is steaming as I hate wasting 25 minutes on just boiling water to generate steam.

Chit Chat / Re: THE SHOPPING THREAD :-)
« on: February 05, 2015, 09:13:55 am »
Since I had my TM5, I have found that I like to keep the book on hand even though I would work from the chip. There is just no counter room in my kitchen so I came across a book holder that is so simple but so useful. I bought it off Amazon. I decided that I would hang it from one of those tool hanging bars with the s shaped hooks. It is right in my line of sight and holds the biggest books as well as my tablet. I am passing on the idea in case you have never thought of it accompanied by two pictures.

TM5 UK Review: Milk Loaf Page 236
Toasting a plait can be difficult in the toaster so I elected make a plain tin loaf. I couldn't resist tearing off a bit of dough to make a bun. My mum was a really good confectioner and she always made sure that there were "mis-shapes" for us 4 girls to enjoy. We loved these better than the main dish. My bun was a hot morsel to introduce the loaf. It was pleasant and tasty but it was a little dense and I had given it double rising time as suggested by "I love TM". The crust is not hard and crumbly so it slices well. I have to freeze mine because of living alone so I always freeze 4 slices to a packet which works quite well. I think I will do a milk loaf again using a different recipe to compare them before giving it 5 stars.

Five Seed Bread  Page 226

Straight away, I have to admit that mine is a 4 seed bread due to my not having the poppy seeds. My loaf tin is 23 x 12 x8 and so a bit smaller than that suggested so I have made a couple of mini loaves to see how they turn out.
The recipe is quite correct to say the dough is very sticky but the good thing is that you drop it straight into the bread tins and wait 1 hour for it to rise then it is straight into the oven. (no oiled bowl to wash) The bad thing is that you end up with a messy TM bowl to wash instead. After 45 mins rising I started to worry about it staying in the tin and after 54 mins, I bottled out and quickly put it in the oven.
The result was somewhat disappointing as I found the inside to be a bit stodgy and for my taste I think I would rather have my bread without the oats.  It is not inedible but I think that I will be having a difficult job slicing it even though I have an electric slicer. The mini loaves are cute and slice a bit better. All I need now is a mini toaster to match them. I think this recipe needs a bit of tweaking but I am not sure how to do that in this case. Perhaps you may have some suggestions?

Chocolate Hazelnut spread  P 284
Well yes it is quite nice although just very slightly gritty.  I used 50/50 chocolate and have to admit that 100% milk chocolate would be nicer. I used grapeseed oil. Overall I think that this is an expensive and dare I say high calorie recipe. I think I put on several kilos just in scraping out the TM bowl......which is a requirement isn't it?  ??? Chocolate spread is not something I normally buy. I suppose I was tempted because my oven was already hot to toast the hazelnuts in. The consistency was good enough to be piped for those who like to add to a bun. I have to say however that having spent the night in the fridge, it is now solid so I will have to leave it out to warm up again to spread on my toast. I did not have an empty jar to make the photo more attractive so I have used a couple of my little storage pots.

Bread / Re: Plain White rolls - no fuss

I notice that the recipe is pretty much the same as the Sandwich Bread in the TM5 basic chip. I will have to try rolls  next time I make it.

Sandwich Bread Page 220
………an absolutely lovely loaf of bread.  What surprised me was how the job was made easy and quick using the TM5 chip . I did not separate the dough into 3 as suggested but dropped the entire mixture into the tin at the appropriate time. I did this to obtain  uniform slices for the toaster. The texture and taste is fantastic. It is sad that I must freeze some of it to preserve it all. This will be my favourite basic bread.

Vegetable Soup Page 92
This soup became tasty but only because I added 2 generous heaped teaspoons of my vegetable stock paste (page 62) I tasted it before adding any further seasoning which was not needed after my stock paste did the trick. The recipe does not include a stock in the ingredients which it very much needed. I sautéed the onion and garlic with the butter to start with which also adds to the taste. I decided not to blend the soup as I thought that chunky bits would be better rather than a thick pulp. The potato element had thickened the sauce part anyway. All in all I was happy with the finished soup. It made a very good lunch as the main course. I can see this being made often.

I thought the stuffed vegetables looked ugly too but now you say they are tasty, I will have to give them a go.

Cream of Courgette Soup Page 94
This soup has been moved up to a favourite on my TM5. It is a very pleasant soup. At first I thought it was going to taste bitter like courgette skin or be a bit tasteless and bland and being green doesn’t help but I had all the ingredients so I decided to go ahead. I was surprised at the difference the cream cheese made so I recommend keeping to the recipe. My photo is slightly out of focus but I like a post with a photo.

Potato Cakes Page 184

I made this recipe as per the book/chip instruction. I found the result was too wet but I fried a couple anyway. I overcooked them as you can see because they appeared to be raw in the middle and they didn't hold together. They actually tasted nice but the batter for want of a better word I felt was not pulsed enough. I returned the remaining batter to the bowl and added 15g of  extra corn flour and 15g of oats. I gave it an extra 16 secs at speed 7. This did seem to get rid of some of the liquid but I was not convinced that it looked right. I would be glad of anyone describing just what the batter should look like. I am starting to think that cooked potato should be used and not raw. What do you think?

Codfish with Citrus Butter Page 166
I made this dish yesterday. I found that the fish and potatoes cooked beautifully but the courgettes were a little over cooked. On first tasting I thought the dish quite tasty but then shortly afterwards I became uncomfortable with the high citrus taste which overpowered the rest of the meal. It could be just my taste buds but I don't think I will be repeating this recipe. I would rather use the butter to pan fry the fish with just salt and pepper to taste and maybe add a parsley sauce.

hello Judy, I have just made one of the selections on your 1-2 portion list. The recipe was really nice. albeit that the portion size was beyond huge. I have copied the list onto my computer. I would like to see all these lovely lists that you do under their own heading so that they are easy to find again.  Is that a possibility?

Vegetarian / Re: Easy Vegetable Curry (with photo)

I decided to have a go at this as it was on the 2-3 people list that Judy kindly listed. I used frozen mixed veg and I must say that it tasted very nice. It looked a lot like the picture with just the right amount of moisture. It is not a hot curry but certainly tasty. It did however make 5-6 portions to my size. I will make it again but with half the ingredients next time.
