Chit Chat / Re: What have you been doing today?

I went to the movies this afternoon with my SIL, it was a film about our football club.

The other day I was in an op shop and one of the volunteers was very chatty. She suggested I take Flaxseed Oil and by the time I walked down to the health shop Iíd forgotten why she said it would do me good LOL.  I bought it anyway then googled its benefits that night.  I was certainly impressed with what I read so will continue using it.  I then found out that a friend had been taking it for 10 years, sheís certainly healthy enough and although she is turning 80 this year she only looks 70.  Apart from the internal goodness it does, I hope it works on my face too!

You have a new road to travel now Chookie, a diabetic diet is good for anyone - diabetic or not.
Iím really interested in seeing how your recipes change now.  Bet the iPad is getting a good workout.

Looking after people in their own home has certainly changed since I was involved with carers
K Atie, having 2 carers staying overnight would be better than being in hospital I would think.  Mum is being looked after really well with the 3 of you there for her, bless you all.

I have to agree re the bread, whether you shouldnít be eating it or canít eat it, without bread in your diet it makes lunch and breakfast choices so much more difficult.
You canít and donít let rain spoil your car runs cookie, catching up with friends is the best thing for us.
Today I went for a browse up a local shopping strip and bought a few clothes then this afternoon I had 2 friends visit at the same time.  Both came with many gifts, they really spoilt me and made me feel very special.  My kids arrived late today from interstate so that was the icing on the cake.

One friend who visited today brought me some pea and ham soup, I was only thinking I must make some of that soup last night so I was very grateful for her kindness, it was lovely.

So sorry to hear that Chookie and to me diabetes is one of the hardest things to understand.  So many things you shouldnít eat, Cookie does a great job managing hers so hopefully she will have some basic ideas for you. I was diagnosed early last year by a very young doctor but since my op itís been impossible to eat much at all and Iíve had 2 doctors and a Diabetic Adviser tell me I am not a diabetic. I therefore just eat what I can and will see how future sugar tests go, at least Iím unable to eat cakes, bread and other things diabetics shouldnít eat much of.

K Atie in your situation food is the last thing on your mind, Iím glad youíve had a good talk to yourself and plan to change that.

Seeing her family would have been a huge boost for your Mum Katie, having full time carers is not the same as having a loving family around you but at least she has someone there to care for her. Hopefully you can reunite with DH & DS in the very near future

Getting in early with a sweet for the kids when they come over next week, I remember these being so easy to make and having great success
with them so these will go into the freezer and Iíll make the sauce for the freezer tomorrow.

I didnít like the tuna sauce so that went in the bin and today Iíve made cottage pies with just 250g mince and lots of veggies. Will keep one out for tonightís dinner then reheat in the a/f to brown the topping. Hopefully this batch wonít end up in the bin too! I am enjoying the cooking, just not the ability to enjoy some things.

Iíve had a busy day, I washed then went to the nursery for 16 pansy plants, did some food shopping, cooked 2 dishes, planted out the pansies and repotted one of my indoor plants to make 2 plants then washed the car. Thatís it for the day, kept myself very busy but my dear Mum was on my mind the whole time as today is the first anniversary of her death. A candle is burning and she is smiling down at me from the TV cabinet.

Iíve had to buy some smaller dishes to heat meals for 1 so Iíve looked for dishes with lids for a while now, much easier than covering with cling film or alfoil.  I also have some thin silicon squares in different sizes which I put over anything small that needs a lid, they work well when heating in the microwave too.  They were an unexpected gift when I bought some soft plastic storage sets some time back, mind you I didnít like them and gave them away but I do like these silicon tops.  I havenít seen them in shops and would buy some bigger sizes if I could find them.
