Help with ingredients for mulled wine please
« on: June 25, 2014, 12:42:11 pm »
I want to make the mulled wine from QFITT book. I don't have early grey tea....would it affect the flavour too much if I used another flavour like english breakfast or regular Dilmah tea?

Also you need dark muscovado sugar.........not sure what that is exactly but I have brown sugar, raw sugar, rapadura sugar....which is the same thing or suitable alternative?

Use very weak brewed Breakfast Tea if that is all you have in your cupboard.Earl Grey is a delicate tea flavoured with Bergamot.
Muscovado is dark sugar cane sugar,so I would use raw sugar.

There is also a recipe on the UK Thermomix website for Mulled Wine.I've drunk that and eaten the sorbet and they are very good.

I am not a tea drinker, so this may not be helpful and you may have already found some, but I would imagine you could order good Earl Gray tea from T2 or specialist tea shops such as Storm In A Teacup here in Melbourne.  If you were doing this I think the minimum quantity could be too large for your needs.

Thanks CC. I was impatient and made the mulled wine before reading your reply. It didn't turn out the best due to a number of ingredient changes. I ended up using Lady Grey tea which sounded similar to earl grey. I forgot to include the orange juice I squeezed and apparently the brandy I used wasn't a good one to include, according to hubby.

Oh well, hopefully I have better luck next time.
