I found this site when Quirkycooking put the sunscreen and deodorant up. It is lovely. http://www.hardlotion.com/howtomakelotionvideo/
120g beeswax
120g Shea butter
150 coconut oil
melt together (beeswax needs to be melted at 80C) I also added 2 Capsules of Vit E (Pin prick and squeeze in)
I poured into clamshell moulds from http://www.aussiesoapsupplies.com.au/Clamshells-c-128.html
It made 10.
From this basic mix other essential oils can be added to make:
Hair butter add orange oil
Bug repellent add citronella, cedar wood, lavender oils.
Lip Balm add peppermint oil
Have fun!! ;)
(Picture coming)

Looking forward to the picture, Nay! ;D

Yay - here is picture! ;)

These are incredibly popular in the US, but don't seem to have taken off on a commercial basis in Australia. I've never made one, but have many recipes for them.
A lot of people make them in wind up deodorant-type tubes. Rather like a big lip balm!

Ignorant here - what is hard lotion??
-
Oh KJH - I'm loving mine!! Insted of using a cream as body moisturiser you make up this mix that sets like a cake of soap then when needed you rub all over - on contact with body it warms and melts just enough to distribute a layer of shea butter & coconut oil onto your body. Try it! ;)

Wow Nay-Nay - sounds gorgeous!
-
OOOH I love the sound of these _ i buy something similar from the Lush shop and they are absolutely gorgeous. My project for tomorrow :)
-
Aha - one of my friends told me about 'Lush shop' must look it up. Hope your project works out a success. ;)
-
I've had them put on me at the Lush place too. I think I would prefer yours Nay-Nay.
-
You're right there cookie. Lush products are gross. The smell makes me ill when I walk past.
-
not like your lemon myrtle and teatree soap ... ;)
-
Too true MJ. We 'discovered' them in Brisbane many years ago and even now DH can smell a Lush shop about ½ km away.
-
not like your lemon myrtle and teatree soap ... ;)
I certainly hope not!! It's Lemongrass & Tea Tree. Glad you're liking it!
Haha cookie!
-
Whoops! It's definitely lemon-something ;D Currently my lingerie drawer is enjoying it, as per instructions to wait for soap to mature ;)

Thanks so much for the Aussie soap supplies link Nay. I had been looking for zinc oxide powder, as I have a baby on the way and love to use it on their bottoms, but all the ones in stores have a talc base. I only found suppliers who sold it in 25kg to 1 ton lots until now.

Welcome Mashley.
-
Your welcome Mashley - I think I got the link off someone else on here - maybe Quirky Jo. Welcome to forum and all the best with bub. ;)
-
I put the Aussie Soaps link up a while ago for someone looking for Virgin Coconut Oil. They're my favourite distributors and have some good recipes on the site as well.
Still don't think I'd go for a Lotion Bar, a bit too greasy for me I think. That said, I've never tried one, so perhaps I'll have to make one and see.
-
Ah - yes of course! You were my next best guess. ;)

if you were in a really hot/humid climate would it just melt on it's own???
-
If very hot, they have to be kept in a cool place or in the fridge. If making them for use in summer, it's suggested reformulating and using more hard butters or beeswax to make a firmer bar.

Thanks megan! hey you're the skinflint lady! how funny...I love your products...esp the face lotion :) will be ordering some more next month when I get back from our holiday :) ;D
