Title: Fingerpaint/non-toxic glue
Post by: riv_mum on June 07, 2009, 12:47:54 pm
250g water

40g cornflour

food colouring

glycerine - optional

Add water and bring to boil by heating at 100degrees, speed 1 for 3 minutes.

Add cornflour cook at 100degrees, speed 5 for  2 minutes.

Mix in food colouring for 10 sec, speed 5.

Optional - add a tablespoon of gylserine to make a glossy paint.

My kids found this paint quite thick but loved it anyway. More or less water can be added to change the thickness of the paint. It can also be used as a non-toxic glue.

not sure. You just need something to make it thicken and go gluey so tapioca may work.

Thanks for  the welcome Thermomixer.  I am Jenna on the masterchef site, have a dose of multiple personality disorder :).

I am really impressed by what I have read about this machine and seen on video clips.  Hanging out to see it in action and to be able to order it.  Hubby is probably even more interested than I.   I am a gadget geek but not generally when it comes to kitchen gear.

OMG - not another Karen - there is brazen20au (Karen 1), karen and Karen3 (also sometimes seen as Dean) already lucky you have decided to be sianon here.

Hope you manage to at least have a great demo.  Think about it and try to get to a demo or two with hubby.

Looking at attending a Demo if this can be organized and then will be happy to arrange a delivery demo when the beast arrives.  Was also talking to a consultant in Hoppers Crossing who advised me that there is a cooking class in early August near to where I live, so will probably attend that along with hubby, even though it appears to be on a camera club night :).

Have been telling every one a work about this machine and they simply think I am nuts :)

Does anyone know how long this paint will last in an air-tight container?  ???

I made this today and it was quite thick.  Nearly too thick for paint.  I'm going to try again tomorrow (different colour this time) with more water and see how we go.....

I've just made some of this up for the kids, definately very thick, I'll try with. Little less cornflour next time, but it makes great glue! :D

I found a website which uses powdered milk instead of cornflour.

Good to know DeeCat.
I never tried it because DS is past that stage now, but my friends use it all the time for their little ones.

I made this today and took the comments into consideration by using more water (about 280g) and it was completely un usable. I had to make 2 batches as I wanted a few different colours (mixed in the colour after) and by the time I completed the second batch the first batch was literally like solid jelly. I chucked the whole lot and started again using the same instructions just with my own quantities

I used 600g of water, 25g of cornflour and about a teaspoon of vegetable liquid food dye in each jar and this is the result I got.
