Melbourne...what would you recommend for teenagers to see and do

Hi, I hope I get a few answers to this since I really should have asked this advice a lot earlier ( a 24 hour bug laid me in bed most of yesterday). My 18 year old DD and her two  girlfriends are going to Melb early Tues. What would you recommend for them to see and do? Where are good shopping outlets selling inexpensive items ( they are Uni students!)? I presume Bridge Road is no longer as good as it was. Where should they go for some fun times?

I suspect 3 18 year old young  adults and being girls would need no advice on where to go in Melbourne . LOL.

They may need 24s of sleep and a good meal when they return.

I am feeling much better thanks Frozzie and Gert. It really knocked me for 24 hours. They are not party animals Gert...and my DD's idea of drinking too much would be 4 cups of green tea rather than 3!  But having said this these girls might lash out! The unpredictability of youth!!! I just want them to have a good time. Am hoping Wonder would see this and reply Frozzie.

Wonder has sent a detailed PM re some shopping possibilities. DFO is one of the options kimmy. Where do they catch the free tram from Cookie?

One of the best things is a walking tour of all the alleys. It's fantastic groundwork and they can always go back and explore and shop. then I would recommend "half price tix" for a good musical - don't pay full price.

The free tram goes round the city. The stops have a burgundy type sign if I remember correctly. There are people in the city centre in red and they can help you with any queries you have. I haven't been over to Melbourne for nearly 12 months but I don't think it would have changed.

Finally found this thread again. One of the other places our DD and friends love going is to St Kilda. It's more for walking around and just general people watching but lots of interesting cages and places along the beach. I know it's freezing there at the moment but we find strolling down Fitzroy St the along the beach front then back up along Acland St a lot of fun and just call into a cafe when it gets to cold.

DD also told me to add Melbourne Central lane ways to her original list as they have started going back in there and also lots of the alleyways which are also now filled with quirky shops and cages. You can walk from one end of the City to the other through different alleyways.

The free tram is still going and does a loop of the city, it's a dark red/brown colour. I would recommend they get a Myki each and just put some money on it which means they can go anywhere Round the city. I think of all the place we mentioned Chadstone would be the hardest to get to as its further out of the city but there are plenty of buses that go out there.
