All-in-one-recipes
« on: July 02, 2010, 07:24:53 am »
Not sure which is the best place for this topic, so feel free to move it!

Was wanting to compile a list of all-in-one recipes, such as the EDC meatloaf recipes, and the swedish meatballs from Meat on the Menu.

What are some others?

By 'all-in-one' I mean dishes where the sauce cooks below, and the rest of the meal cooks in the varoma or basket.

I think these types of recipes show off the capabilities of the TMX beautifully when catering for guests.

There are some great ones.

I've been wondering about the sweet and sour meatballs from the EDC.  I think it is quite nice and very easy as it is, but I bet it could be easily converted into an all-in-one family meal.  I think it would need a little more liquid in the sauce and then rice could be cooked in the basket, sauce in the bowl, meatballs in the dish and vegies in the tray.  Small meatballs cook in 20 minutes and veg does also if sliced fairly small.  I must give it a go soon. :)

At the moment, the only one I can think of is from the Indian Book, page 90, Salmon Tikka Dinner with Steamed Rice and Green Beans. There is another recipe I have that I will hunt out today so I can post later.

Asian Fish Fillets out of the FSA cookbook
Cannelloni out of the FSA (think I spelt that wrong  ???)

Often I just steam meat (ie sausages, rissoles etc) in the varoma, veggies on top, gravy down below and rice or potatoes in the basket. Easy peasy  8)

Pasta Bolognese.
75g Parmesan, grated in the TM by dropping chunks on to running blades speed 8, set aside.
1 recipe of Bolognese Sauce.
300g pasta shapes.
300g boiling water.
1.Make the Bolognese sauce. When it is boiling, stop the TM and insert the butterfly whisk.Add the pasta and boiling water.
2.Cook at Varoma temperature/ spoon speed/reverse blade action for the length of time that is specified on the pasta packet plus 1 minute.
3. Tip into a serving bowl and sprinkle with the Parmesan cheese and serve with a salad.
I collected this all in one recipe on a Thermomix workshop.
You could of course make this  vegetarian by making a Tomato based sauce instead of Bolognese sauce.

Thanks Cornish Cream, keep those all-in-one recipes coming.  I usually cut my pork fillets into 5cm chunks so that they don't over cook and then place them in the thermosaver to rest once I think they are done to almost our liking (still pink) then continue cooking the vegies & rice the full time.

I had a quick glance and there are at least four all-in-one meals in the UK Demonstrator Delights book.  I haven't tried any of them yet, but they do sound quite nice.

All-In-One Lamb Curry and Rice

Salmon Fillet with Lemon and Dill and Broccoli Puree
(puree sounds nice with potato, garlic, broccoli and chilli)

Herbed Paprika Steak Rolls
(minute steaks marinated in foil lined varoma dish, rolled up with a toothpick and steamed with foil pulled away from edges of dish.  Rice in basket, sliced veggies in tray).

Lemon Chicken Parcels
The recipe is so simple I will post a quick version of it here (:o).

Allow 1 chicken breast and 1 medium potato for each person (max 4 chicken breasts).
Season whole skinless chicken breasts with herb salt and 1-2 tsp of lemon juice per breast.  Wrap in individual foil parcels and place in varoma dish.
Place peeled chopped potatoes (3cm cubes) in steaming basket.
Place 1 litre of water in the bowl.
Place sliced carrots in tray (doesn't specify how many carrots).
Place "green beans wrapped in bacon" (recipe in Full Steam Ahead) with carrots in tray.
Put everything together (basket, varoma etc) and steam it all for 30 minutes, varoma temp, speed 1.  :)

Chelsea I had forgotten about the Demonstrators Delights book and the fact that I have tried the All in One Lamb Curry with Rice when I first got the book. The flavour is delicious but when you add the rice is does make it thick and stodgy.Knowing how good you are playing around with recipes I thought you could tweak it by adjusting the amount of rice.Looked at the other recipes that you mentioned and given me ideas for this weeks menu.

All-in-one recipes are a great idea to have together in a group. I'm afraid I don't have any to contribute, but Chelsea, how do I get a copy of the Salmon recipe?

Think we need another forum section!! All-In-One Main Meals. Yoohoo!! Master Moderator!!!
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

I just remembered another of our favourite all-in-one meals - Dirty Rice with Meatballs . Much more appealing than it sounds - trust me!  ;D
