I've been following this thread and I hope the challenge is still going at Christmas time. I would love to see how you all go ;D ;D

I put $10 a week in an envelope for Christmas, been doing it for years as it is a great help when you are having the family for Christmas. You can buy anything and everything you want without even thinking about how much it costs.  Christmas is Christmas and most of us expect to spend a lot more than any other week.  These days, if we go to the kids' house for our main meal I like to have 6 particular friends in for a meal a week or so before Christmas so I am more inclined to use it then and give the leftover money to whomever is having Christmas Day at their place to help with their costs (or buy them a leg of ham or some prawns, whatever).

Emma  how do you make your lime salt.

I have heaps of limes.

Yes I use Teninas recipe, 2-3 lime zest and 2 chillis per 100g salt (I use 150g salt though)

Take care, Emma

Thats a great idea Judy! I might copy it, if you don't mind? ;D Money is a bit tight for us and I'd love to help mum and SD out with the finances in any way I can. Maybe I should put away $20 though, since there are only a few months until Christmas ;)

Go for it Amy, anything put away adds up and helps in the end.  Remember to put some aside for yourself too though ;)

Home after a week away and back on to challenge.  We are going to daughters to babysit for 3 days,  so with a bit of planning and a lot of help from the freezer ,  should be able to stick within target.  I take the main meals and the GC love to cook so will make muffins and. Cakes with them.  Fruit and veg will be the challenge.

Wel I am over this week, $117.58, it could have been worse, I refrained from nuts & cheese, but theres always tomorrow as I run from sunday-saturday,  ;D

I bought quite a few bags of various frozen veg to keep as back up, plus as last week was a 0 spend I was low on a lot & some things I still am. I am sure one week there is going to be a large blow out on necessities, hope not, but am running low  on evvo, no vanilla paste left. I made cakes yesterday without the vanilla paste & I could tell the difference, cakes not quite as good.

Trying to keep as low as poss before we go away at the beginng of October.

H :)

I haven't broken down my shopping yet but I spent $18 on bulk yeast, 7.5kg white flour and 15kg whole meal flour. My supermarket bill was $101 but that included bulk buys like toilet rolls and nappies for two kids. I am happy with that!

Only $34. 50 last week from the farmers market. This is as close as I have come to a no spend shopping week.
