Peanut Butter question
« on: January 08, 2012, 09:54:35 am »
Hi
I was wanting to make the peanut butter from the EDC but I don't have any sunflower oil, has anyone tried to make it with a different oil? I have olive oil or grapeseed, wasn't sure that olive oil would work as it has such a strong flavour but maybe grapeseed? Any suggetions  ??? Thanks

I haven't tried it, but I would think grapeseed oil would be OK - maybe try it on a smaller quantity to begin with?.

Let us know how it does

If you go to this list maxxie and find peanut butter, you will see there are 2 links to comments regarding this recipe. Have a read of both - some say you don't even have to add oil.

I use peanut oil but only about 15 grams to 300 grams of nuts.

Hi Maxxie,

I have made the peanut butter using Macadamia Oil, its very yummy. I use Macadamia Oil in most recipes these days and always get great results!  :)

I don't use any oil. Just chuck in roasted, salted nuts and grind at speed 8 until pasty then drop to speed 6 until at preferred consistency (we like a bit of crunch). Works a treat.

I used grapeseed, but with a mixture of nuts. tasted much better than straight peanuts :)

Red Kell how did you fair with cyclone Heidi? Did you get much rain or had it gone inland before you?

Sorry Cookie, I only just saw this!! All we got from the cyclone was a little rain, they always seem to fizzle out before they reach us. Its a total pain, because we still need to go through all the prep (tie down etc)
Oh well, I suppose its better than a solid hit with one :)

Hi, just wondering if you all use roasted or raw peanuts... I bought raw ones, but am wondering if I should roast them a little bit first.  I will definitely be adding salt and sugar as I know my teens very well.. ;)

I've only made this once and added macadamia nuts and didn't need any extra oil.  I would imagine that roasted nuts would taste better than unroasted.  Any fairly bland oil should do if you find you need to add any.  Quirky Jo has some references to peanut butter as well on her blog which you might find helpful: http://quirkycooking.blogspot.com.au/

I would probably roast them first.  I never add any oil to my peanut butter.  Peanuts are full enough of their own natural oils that there really is no need for any more.
