How do you go about making watermelon sorbet? If you freeze the melon first would you still add ice?

Recipe Requests / Fondant please?
« on: October 24, 2012, 09:16:03 am »
Hi Ladies  :)
Have any of you tried making any type of fondant in your TMX?
I am after a recipie, but also some advice. If you have made it, what is it like? Is it easy to work? I've not really used fondant before, so don't want anything too fiddly. Just need to make a LEGO cake  ;D

Sorry Cookie, I only just saw this!! All we got from the cyclone was a little rain, they always seem to fizzle out before they reach us. Its a total pain, because we still need to go through all the prep (tie down etc)
Oh well, I suppose its better than a solid hit with one :)

Meagan, the link to the sink cleaning says to use baking powder, can you use bi-carb instead?

Thanks for the oven cleaner keiramax, mine is pretty clean as I never cook meat in it but I will write it out and keep it in a safe place.

I obviously didn't read it right because I used bi-carb....but it worked great!!!!!
I have been getting a little inspired and organized thanks to flylady. Still not keeping it totally together, but its a step up from where I was at before!! ;D

Jams and Chutneys / Re: Mango chutney

Well, I cut up the Mangoes all ready to make this, got out all the ingredients and realized I've run out of cardamon! >:( I've taken this as a sign that I'm not meant to make this just yet, so have frozen the mango instead! :-)) Sorry, maybe next time I'll be a little more organized LOL!!!

I don't think I've got any hope of finding them in Karratha  :( However I found an indian spice website that says you can subsitute cumin seeds for the nigella, and just leave out the fenugreek, so thats what Im going to try!

Red Kell, the TMX is good for making small quantities of jam which is also a good way to save fruit.  I also use the Microwave to bottle fruit.  I have posted the process on the Forum and on my blog.

Hi Chookie  :)
I do make jam in thermie, but tend to freeze the fruit first and just make jam as I need it. It's more the veg that bother me. I keep buying things, then when I get them out to cook with they are floppy/rotten/yuk. Things dont have the staying power up here, half the time they are nearly past it when still in the shops  >:(

Hi guys, I would love to try this, it sounds yum! Problem is I've never heard of 'fenugreek'? Neither of the shops in town have it, or nigella seeds. Could I substitute something else? Mixed spice maybe? I dont want to leave making it too long or my mangos will go off :(

Chit Chat / Freezing fresh vegies 101??

Hi all  ;D
I'm sure there would be a post about this on here SOMEWHERE....just not where I can find it LOL.
I lve in a place where vegies are expensive, and go bad very quickly (like a day or two after I buy them) I'm so sick of having to throw things out, but don't want to be at the shops everyday, so I need help  :-))
Who freezes veg? Which ones freeze best, and whats the best way to do it? I'm slightly kitchen impared, so basic instructions would be good  :-[
Thanks guys  ;D

Thanks so much for all the links guys, you lot are great ;D
I think I'll try raspberry first...yummm!
Maddie, I think if you only drink a little the syrup would be OK, but I am trying to limit additives in my sons food. With daily temps here in the 30's and getting hotter VERY quick, fizzy drink really does hit the spot! The more natural I can make it the better.

Chit Chat / Thermomix and Soda Stream..?
« on: November 08, 2011, 07:59:33 am »
Hi, 8)
Does anyone out there have a Soda Stream? I've just been given one, but I don't want to use the syrup that goes with it, as it is high in all sorts of additives that I'm trying to cut out!
It says you can make using a fruit juice concentrate, any ideas on how to make my own with Thermie? ???
