My condolences on the passing of your mum, K Atie. You were so lucky to be able to be with her for her final days and I am sure she found comfort in that precious time.

All day photo shoot in the shop for our new web site happening today - what a lot of work is involved behind the scenes.

I strongly suspect I am not far behind you in that diagnosis, Chookie, I have been putting off visiting the doctor for a while but the last blood test I had earlier this year didn't raise any flags so hopefully I am worrying about nothing.

I thought that something had gone seriously wrong ... not a thing for two days.  Glad to see that it is all OK.

The year has certainly sped by Judy, I thought the image of her looking down on you was very lovely and touching.

I made a batch of crab apple jelly at the weekend and it is not looking as if it is going to set.  If I re-boil it on the stove top, should I add more sugar (it already has a full quantity of sugar) or use jamsetta - and if so, how much?
I used up all the crab apples (4 kg) left on the tree so it would be a shame to lose the lot.  I guess I could always call it crab apple sauce, of course, but that was the previous week's 'disaster' and I would like to think that I had at least had some sort of success with the crab apples.

They look good, Chookie, I am planning to have another attempt at crab apple jelly this weekend, but if I end up with my sauce again by mistake I won't be disappointed.

Good news, Chookie.

I agree about aprons, I always wear one when cooking.

Another purchase for me yesterday, my old lap top finally died - it has been threatening for a couple of months now, but it finally gave up on me yesterday so I had to rush out and get a replacement.  Now I just have to get this new one up and running again, which is always a hassle.

You are absolutely right, Cookie ... we would have no customers at all if we were out where that facility was ... nice to dream though!

Just lashed out and bought 10 aprons ... unfortunately not for me, all for work (but I will snaffle one for myself once the embroidery is completed).  I went out to the  manufacturers and they had a beautiful, peaceful, plant filled office and cafeteria; I was quite jealous as we are so cramped for space at work - I guess that is the difference between working way out in the 'burbs as opposed to near the CBD!

This was my recipe disaster at the weekend.  Despite throwing out and giving away kilos and kilos of crabapples we still have heaps on the tree so on Saturday I decided I couldn’t waste them … I would make crabapple jelly.

Picked and prepared the fruit (c. 2 kg) and tossed them and some fresh raspberries for colour (thanks for that tip, Chookie) into the pot and cooked it down for c. 90 minutes.  Then drained them through my strainer (tipping about 1/3 of them onto the floor in the process!).

Left the remainder to drain overnight then on Sunday I put the fluid into the pot for the final 15 minutes or so of boiling with the sugar … that’s where the main problem was … I found I had misread the recipe and put the sugar into the fruit for the initial cooking on Saturday.

OK, I thought, sugar is sugar so everything will be alright.  Sadly, I didn’t end up with crabapple jelly, but I did end up with absolutely delicious crabapple sauce.  It was gorgeous and went so well with ice cream.

However, I have learned my lesson, so when (if) I make more crabapple jelly this weekend I will put the sugar in at the right time (although the sauce was so nice I am almost tempted to copy last weekend’s “invention”!).  Anyway, fingers crossed for a successful jelly making session this weekend.

The label looks good, Chookie.  You must be really happy with them

Vegetarian / Re: Cauliflower and Kohlrabi mash

Due to get kohlrabi in this week's vege box so this looks like a promising recipe.  I have never tried or tasted kohlrabi before and I am told that the leaves are also edible so I think you can get two meals out of the one vege - this mash and, along with bok choi and choi sum, a stir fry dish as well.  More cooking adventures for me this weekend.
