just tried this...the first lot with the new easyo and the milk powder worked perfectly
then for the 2nd batch i left a cup or so of the original batch, added the milk powder and just for luck one tablespoon of the easyo powder, left over night......but the yoghurt is now all runny?
do i have to throw this away, anything i can do to remedy it?

I'd just remove a bit of the liquid, add the 4 dessertspoons of easiyo powder and give it a good shake baf65, top up with as much liquid as you can and start the setting process again in the easiyo container.

I made another batch yesterday (my second) but I didn't use any of the previous batch from a week ago as I had added some mango puree to it and I wanted plain this time.  I hadn't vacuum sealed my packet so was wondering if it would still work - it did.

would leaving the yoghurt out of the fridge for almost a whole day and putting in and out of hot water in the thermos thingo make it nasty?

From what I've read, if the yogurt is ever runny it is not a complete waste and can be remedied just as judydawn has suggested.  Sometimes, the reason for the runny yogurt is due to the container not being as spotlessly clean as it looks.  Make sure to run it through a dishwasher or pour boiling hot water into it to sterilise it (don't do what I once did and pour boiling water in, screw the lid on and shake - this just causes a vacuum, makes the lid impossible to open and then scalds you when it eventually opens up!  Just pour it in and run it around the container if that makes sense. Easier to put through the dishwasher though).

cold water.  However in winter I usually put in warm or tepid water as I find it works better because of the cold weather.

I usually don't get around to making it until early afternoon then leave it on the bench until I am ready to turn the lights out - it could be anywhere between midnight and 1am before it goes in the fridge. Better if you can make it in the morning and refrigerate it before you go to bed Uni as a lot of people are not up that late.

I either make mine in the morning when I first wake up and put in the fridge just before going to bed (12 hours?) or make in the early afternoon and put in the fridge the following morning (18 hours?). I always just fill up with cold water from the tap.

I use Easiyo sachets or the Hansells ones (often cheaper and some good flavours). I have a couple of electric yogurt makers (one from an op shop here).  I usually put in some previously boiled water then top it up with filtered tap water, check the temp - blood warm to somewhat warmer (gets things going faster), then I add the powder. Pop it in machine, switch on and anywhere from 6-12 hours later it's done.

I have also used jars of 'proper' yogurt ( live yogurt no additives or flavouring) with both milk powder types, successfully.
If I use milk rather than powder I'll use UHT cartons of milk as they are already sterile saving me the job of having to scald and cool it

Lastly - and available from Mr Vitamins in Chatswood for about $16-$18 - is Natren yogurt starter culture. Then I'll use the UHT with this. It's very good and can give a non- acidic yogurt.
