Chit Chat / Re: How long have you had your TMX/TC?

my consultant said that usually if anything goes wrong, it's due to user error; good to know, isn't it?

i bought my TM 2 1/2 years ago and i wish i had one earlier than that. love it.  a friend bought a TC before christmas thinking that it would be the same, but is having trouble with it now. she has trouble kneading bread, and having to reset the settings each time she want to check it is driving her nuts. the butterfly broke (?); does this sound right?
who has both and can give an objective opinion?

that's my most favourite cookbook, and it's the way i learnt how to make cakes. don't know the the one from fishpond is the same.

i don't have TC, but i don't use a butterfly in all the recipes which call for one, eg, lemon butter.
i do use my butterfly when i make risotto, fruity dream and whip cream and egg whites. i can't see how you'd make fruity dream and whip egg whites and cream without one. i guess you have to work out when you need to use it and when you don't. i've never had an issue with mine at all - always use it at speed 4 or below, just like i've always been told, and not a single problem, even when making butter. i will say that it seems sturdier than it looks. i only know of one person who has had her butterfly chopped up and that was because she used her butterfly over speed 4. she reckons her consultant didn't tell her, so she had to buy one from my consultant because hers had disappeared off the face of the earth.

Introduce Yourself / Re: Hello from Sydney, contemplating a TMX..

FFF, have fun at the demo and don't feel you have to get it straight away. what you want to do is see the demo and have a think about it and see if you have a rapport with your consultant as well, because that will make your journey with the tm even more enjoyable.
it isn't difficult to tell that we love our tms, and you know this forum will support you.

hi @HomeMum. i'd be getting your consultant to do another demo for you - you can learn lots about the tm from just the basic demo. mine comes over every now and then and shows me things to do, so it's lots of fun.

Chit Chat / Re: Tonka Bean
« on: January 11, 2012, 12:29:39 pm »
i tried one of adriano's confrctions with the tonka bean in it and to be honest, it was a lot of hype. vanilla is one of the most delicious flavourings and will never be toppled by the likes of a tonka bean. it's just a gimmick.
if we want to talk about toxicity, nutmeg in large quantities is also toxic, so moderation is the key.

i'm glad i'm not the only one curious about alyce alexandra's background. when i asked about her background earlier either in this thread or another, there wasn't any response and it was as if my comment was invisible. i did ask my consultant about her and she said she had never heard of her before, unlike tenina. so she felt safe buying a pile of tenina's books, but is unsure about buying alyce's sight unseen, which is fair enough.
i'm going to sit back and watch for the time being.

grammatical errors shouldn't appear in print - that's what editors are for.

check with your consultant - HO will replace anything faulty. if it's the tm chopping the basket, the basket will be replaced.

who is alyce alexandra? it'd be nice to have a bit of background.

Chit Chat / Re: A Thermomix Christmas as it unfolds
« on: December 25, 2011, 05:16:05 am »
all sounds lovely. we're just cooking along as we go, too. the morning started with banana pancakes; while that was happening, i mixed up a batch of dough for bagels to have with salmon and cream cheese. while the dough was proving, i cooked some chicken with ginger and garlic to have with garlic rice. my sister's mixing up some takoyaki batter now. we'll have roast pork with crackling tonight with potato pizza. i'm sure there'll bemore food happening, but isn't it nice we can be so relaxed about it?

Lol yeah but I don't want to do it once too often and naff my machine  ???
what i heard was that the blades are the thing that are sacrificed when you overload your tm too often; the engine doesn't burn out like with other appliances. what happens is that when the bowl is overloaded, and the engine is trying to spin the blades, when it can't spin the blades, the thing in the middle of the blade releases so it can spin (the thing in the middle), but the blades stay stationary. sooo...that's what happens, so i've been told. it doesn't happen the first time, but it will happen over time if you overload your bowl; that's why when we make the sorbet, we only use half the ice each time. something has to "give", so it's the blades.

HO is definitely the wrong place, especially since they don't have tenina there anymore. haven't heard a peep out of the new recipe developer; don't know her name or anything that she/he does - tenina is a hard act to follow.
