« on: December 10, 2014, 04:43:24 am »

Chit Chat / Discount code for Bento style lunch boxes and accessories
« on: November 21, 2014, 03:19:02 am »
In case others are interested I've got a 10% discount code for the Lunchboxes with Love site. I was purchasing a bento lunch box for myself, but there are lots of other useful products on the site for reusable types of fod packaging - particularly for kids.

The code is JOMLNDZ and you just insert it at the checkout stage.

Chit Chat / Help with accommodation in Adelaide
« on: November 20, 2014, 09:25:27 am »
I'm hoping some of the lovely Adelaide ladies might be able to help.

DH and I are coming to Adelaide for Dh's brother in laws 50th birthday. They live in Golden Grove and the only accommodation idea they have given is at a caravan park 20 mins away. If it's 20 mins away I'm thinking we would be better off getting a hotel in central Adelaide so we at least have somewhere interesting to have a walk around. We get in at around 7am on Saturday morning and leave at 6am on Monday morning. I've only been to Adelaide once and I must admit I don't think I really saw the light of day  ;D  All ideas and suggestions appreciated.

Recipe Requests / Lime and Ginger Marmalade recipe help
« on: September 15, 2014, 12:29:59 am »
I've got some limes and a lot of lemons to use up so was thinking of making lime and ginger marmalade for my Dad. I've looked for recipes and haven't found an exact one but did see this one on taste and thought I might be able to swap the grapefruit for limes. I've not made much jam and don't eat marmalade so hoping someone might let me know if the flavour will be ok. I'm thinking of using the method used in Chookies carrot and lemon marmalade. Any thought or ideas would be appreciated.

I would really like to see the new TM5 in action but there is no way I'll have a demonstration. I thought I would put it out there in case anyone is thinking of arranging a demo and would like an extra guest who is normally pretty hopeless at saying no to sales people.

Chit Chat / Greece and Turkey
« on: February 13, 2014, 09:54:27 am »
We are thinking of taking a holiday to Greece and Turkey in September. It will be our first holiday without DD which will be very strange but I guess it had to happen at some point.

I've only just started researching but any suggestions would be fantastic. We've never travelled to either place and will only have three weeks so any and all advice on places to go, things to not miss would be appreciated.

My Mum has always used a cooked  dressing for her very basic potato salad, it's family favourite although I've never tried making it myself. I'm planning on having a first try of making it today but interested if the experts can help me on the temperature for cooking the mixture.

The recipe is:
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
Pepper
Salt
1/4 tsp mustard powder
1 dessertspoon curry powder
1/2 cup brown vinegar
1 cup milk

Mix all ingredients together  & stir while bringing to boil then simmer 10 mins stirring occasionally. chill

Thanks in advance

Chit Chat / Defrosting vacuum sealed meat
« on: January 08, 2014, 03:09:13 am »
Does anyone know who long vacuum sealed meat will keep once defrosted. I defrosted the meat in the fridge and it's still vacuumed sealed in the original vacuum sealed bag. Not sure if it's the same as defrosting meat in normal packaging or lasts longer.

We had these made for us by a generous consultant at the Festive cooking class a few days ago and just had to make some.

I found the dough was very soft and needed to go in the fridge before it could be rolled out. It seemed very strange to heat the mixture once you added the butter, as it had the effect of melting the butter almost fully and making the mixture very soft. The taste is great and the recipe makes a lot, I've only cooked half and there were 45 biscuits. They are lovely and crunchy, full of flavour and made the house smell great. Mine only needed to cook for 10 mins although that could be my oven as it runs hot, you can see in the photo some are a little overcooked. I'm planning on decorating some with royal icing and will post a photo of when I get that done.

I think I'll try the recipe that is already on the forum and see if they are much different.

Chit Chat / Timber chopping board
« on: November 21, 2013, 12:59:30 am »
I'm looking for a good quality big timber chopping board. It will be used more as a presentation board, to cut and serve a number of pizzas on at once, and also so I can easily put hot dishes on our table so everyone can help themselves to dinner. I've been looking at this one but will am interested to hear if anyone knows of any local makers particularly in Victoria.

Chit Chat / Do you pre warm your thermoserver
« on: October 03, 2013, 08:34:45 am »
I don't use my thermoservers all that much and find they don't keep the food as hot as other people say. I'm now wondering if maybe I should be pre warming them with boiling water first. I do if I'm using them for yoghurt but don't think I have when just keeping food warm. I would be interested to hear what others do.
