Any advice on what jam I can make in winter?
I want to gift two of my friends with a jar and not able to make up my mind what to prepare, any suggestions?

Sorry for being lazy, when I did a quick search for Summer salad, it returned lots of posts.. So starting a new one.

I am keen on making some summer salads this weekend, especially with couscous and beetroot..
Can someone suggest a good recipe? I had one at work last week and would love to have it more often, it had rocket, roasted vegetables and couscous..

The dressing was just perfect, I am not that good at it so any suggestion will be good, Thanks :)

Chit Chat / Holiday in Tasmania

Happyyy New Year everybody!

I have come back from a holiday but now feel like going on another.
Next month, it is our 8th wedding anniversary and was planning a holiday in Tasmania.
But I havent been there before and thought would ask the experts here ;)

Does anyone live in Tas or any suggestions of best places to visit.

I have a 2 year old so please suggest kid friendly places and also thinking of a 3 day trip, dont think it will be enough but thats all the leave I can afford to take after 5 weeks of holiday :D

I am checking online but going crazy with so much information.. Any suggestion would be of great help, Thanks :)

Chit Chat / Christmas Hamper Ideas

Please dont kill me for starting this post :D

But the reason I am starting this, it is my daughter's first year at day care and I really want to plan stuff to give the carers. I have never made a hamper, just bought them for friends, but this year with the thermomix and support of you guys, I really would like to try it..

I just have 3 months as I will be away on holidays from Nov end, so planning to give the hampers before I leave..

Thinking of putting the following in the hamper, but any advice from all of you will be great!!!

- Strawberry conserve in a small jar
- Carrot cake
- Almond Jam cookies/Choc chip cookies
- Homemade chocolates
- Wine or something...

Chit Chat / Where do you buy vanilla beans from?

Today I had to buy vanilla extract and I didn't realize how much I always spent on it, it was 11$ at woolies for a small bottle...  :o

And as I am making more and more homemade muffins, banana bread, etc. will be using more of it..

I remember a thread about you guys making your own using vanilla beans..
So was curious to know where exactly do you buy the vanilla beans and also please suggest a good recipe for making one!!

Does have a suggestion of a good Vegetarian Thermomix cookbook?
I now have only the Basic Cookbook which has come with my TM5 and would like to buy another..
I keep seeing everyone posting regarding cookbook reviews and keep wondering, wish I had that book, I could have given that recipe a try..

To all the bread making gurus here :)

I have made Chookie's no fuss loaf with plain flour and it turned out superb, but now trying to experiment. I am trying to replace it with coconut and whole meal flour, do I still use the same water measurement or increase it?

And also, is there a way I can save my bread? I made a loaf and it was late before I saw that it was not cooked through :( Is there anything I can do?

Non Thermomix Recipes / Sago Patties (deep fried)

This is one of my favorite snack which my mom always used to prepare..
Posting a recipe for the first time, so plz bear with me ;)

2 cups very small white sago
1 large boiled potato mashed
1/2 cup roasted peanuts
1 inch ginger
2 green chilli
1 tsp cumin seeds
salt to taste
Oil to fry
3-4 curry leaves finely chopped
3-4 sprigs of corainder finely chopped

Place sago in a bowl and fill water just enough to submerge it (dont put excess water else it will get too sticky), close with a lid and keep aside for 30-45mins. In the meanwhile grind the ginger and green chilli to a fine paste. In a blender/TM coarsely grind the peanuts, make sure there are few chunky bits, this makes it more tasty..

After the sago absorbs all the water, in a bowl mix well sago, mashed potato, peanuts, ginger, chilly, curry leaves, coriander, cumin seeds and salt. The mixture should be a nice thick one with which you can form patties.

In a pan of oil, deep fry these patties just until they are golden brown, takes around 4-5 mins..
They should be crispy on the outside but a little gooey on the inside..

Serve as it is or with tomato ketchup and enjoy!!!

p.s. Sorry no photo to upload as I couldnt take one immediately and by the time I wanted to, all was gone  ;D
      Will surely try to add a photo next time I make these

NOTES: Please make sure there is enough potato in the mixture as they tend to pop when fried.. so please be careful..
           You can have some variations adding chopped onion, I personally dont prefer onion in these..

Its my in-laws anniversary on sunday and I would like to bake an egg free cake for them..

Bread / Best loaf tin for bread?

Probably some stupid questions for experts,

I have tried Buttermilk bread and Helene's dark rustic bread, loved the results but the loaf was not as big as a normal supermarket bread. So my question, what is the ideal size of a loaf tin to get a proper slice :)

And also any pointers where I can get a good loaf tin?

Hi everyone,

This is PD from Down under.
I have recently bought a TM5 and really excited about it. I keep browsing through your recipes, especially the Vegetarian section as I am one, and love love the ideas. I have a 13month old and making the most use of my thermi, whip up smoothies, soups, veg sausage rolls and the spicy vegetable muffins.
