All I can say in response is eating out in WA is expensive no matter where you go! It is unlike Melbourne in the fact that you can go anywhere, have good food and service and not pay a fortune! And cookbooks are the same in Aus, I sometimes buy the ones I want online from UK or USA because it is way cheaper with shipping costs than buying them here!

Thanks Frozzie, I'll have to have a look on the sites and see if there is anything that interests me. I don't have any specific recipes in mind yet! I do spend a lot of my spare time researching recipes!

Yes it was a little pricey but I can't resist cookbooks, its usually my little treat (my husband likes to spend lots of money on his homebrewing and computers etc!) but my Mum actually bought this for my early birthday present. I've tried to stop buying cookbooks but sometimes I cannot resist!

Chit Chat / Favourite Cuisine to Cook

I'm new to this forum and I thought it would be interesting to find out what cuisines everyone enjoys cooking. I have a wide variety of food that I cook, only because I enjoy cooking!

I love making curries, whether it be Indian (Butter Chicken, Korma, Vindaloo etc), Thai (Massaman, Green, Red, Yellow) or even Japanese (Katsu). I think I enjoy getting all these interesting ingredients (like galangal, shrimp paste, palm sugar etc) and mixing with some everyday kind of ingredients and making some fantastic smelling paste. I always make more paste than I need and freeze the remaining and then I've always got some on hand for the next time I want to make something.

But I really want to get into some French cooking, I love the way everything looks and sounds! Luckily I have a husband who will eat anything that has had a heartbeat so I can try those interesting things like rabbit, venison and beef cheeks! But he doesn't like escargot! :P

I have a mix of Circulon & Scanpan. I find that the Circulon bases aren't as solid as I would like and I really should invest in a heat defuser (I know they are only like $10 but I always forget when I am at Kitchen Warehouse!). I've never had any problems with the few Scanpan ones I have (Wok, Griddle Pan, Tagine & Pressure Cooker) but I don't enjoy cooking with stainless steel as I have burnt things plenty of times (maybe its my cooktop though) but I do hear plenty of people don't like Scanpan and/or have plenty of problems with them. Has anyone tried the Silit brand ones? I have seen those around lately and I wonder what they are like.

I luckily went into Kitchen Warehouse at the right time today and had the opportunity to get Alain Fabregues sign his cookbook 'Degustation'. He is head chef and owner of The Loose Box in Mundaring (near Perth, WA). I'm so excited by his recipes I am going to try cook most of the things from his book! I don't think I'll splurge on the truffles to make all of his dishes though! If anyone else has a passion for French cooking, could you possibly share some recipes that I could make in my Thermo? Thanks in advance!

Chit Chat / Re: What's your favourite quiche filling?
« on: July 05, 2011, 02:14:02 pm »
I cannot make a quiche without roasted baby tomatoes and asparagus. I usually add whatever else I have available as well. Usually feta, ham, bacon, onion, leek, spring onion or whatever else I need to use up. I love the fact you can add pretty much anything into a quiche and then thats lunch for work for a couple of days for me and hubby!

Thanks for the ideas! I'm going to check out the cakes and slices! I can't wait to convert some of my current favourite recipes over so I can use the Thermomix with those as well.

I'm eagerly awaiting my new Thermobaby (as I have been calling it at work!) which is due to arrive next Friday! I'm looking forward to having a whole weekend to trial my machine and produce some yummy delights to take into work and show off! If anyone has any suggestions for first recipes to make?

I'm very excited!
