Title: Many ways to proof bread
Post by: achookwoman on April 12, 2015, 02:42:04 am
Please add instructions and photo, if possible.
Today I tried 2 completely new ways to help my bread rise.

First the dough in preheated tumble dryer, ( not turning), door ajar.
Secondly, in front of AF after baking. Turned off.

Two good new ways there; when it has kneaded the tmx is nice and warm so I just wrap it in a quilt and put it out of the way (usually on my bed).

My favourite way when the weather is cool is to put the bread in the oven. Then place a bowl of boiling water on the floor f the oven. If necessary you can  replace the boiling water.

I place my dough on top of my coffee machine. The ambient heat works a treat.

Good one Kyton.  Must try it.

I did a bread making class recently and another hint was to put it on top of your video/foxtel box in the lounge - the warm air coming out of those is enough to make your bread rise too apparently.

Bogie, looks like we will have to get FOXTEL, just for the bread.  ;D

I wonder what DH will say when I tell him we need to get Foxtel to rise the bread.  ;D

I often prove my bread in the car if it's a warm day. If not, I boil the kettle and put the boiling water into a measuring cup. I place the dough and the measuring cup of hot water into the microwave and shut the door.

Both good ones ES.
Isi recommends floating bowl and tin in sink of hot water.

That would be better than the oven ES. Thanks.

Tried the microwave method today, a winner.  Thanks.  When the water got cool I removed the dough and zapped the water. It filled the oven with steam.

Just put some scrolls precariously positioned on top of dishes in a recently finished (and therefore steaming) dishwasher :) Worked well.

I believe the weather you have been having has been good for rising bread Jamberie. My brother put in an air conditioner several weeks ago. I think I mentioned that he lives in Bungendore.

Yes, I remember he lives in Bungendore, it's a lovely area. We drove through there today.
The last week has been very good for bread proving, but because we have the air conditioning on, bread proving is a little difficult, unless I take it outside :)
